Mac directions: copy/pasta with edits
Running Hacked designs

1. Download uashellc.zip from the UA archive and extract its contents to your main UA directory 'D&D Unlimited Adventures.app/Contents/Resources/game' (Right-click Show Package Contents on the App to browse from Finder).

1b. OPTIONAL: Code check removal (Pt. 1): If you want to permanently remove the obsolete codeword check from your legit copy of the game, also download ckit-crk.zip and extract CKIT-CRK.COM to your main UA directory 'D&D Unlimited Adventures.app/Contents/Resources/game'.

2. Edit script_alt.sh at 'D&D Unlimited Adventures.app/Contents/Resources' with a text editor. Change lines 5-6 to:

3. Make a copy of the file dosbox_ua_single.conf in the same directory, 'D&D Unlimited Adventures.app/Contents/Resources/game', and rename it to dosbox_uashell.conf. Open dosbox_uashell.conf with a text editor. Find the line that says „start“ and replace it with „CALL uashell“.

3b. OPTIONAL: Code check removal (Pt. 2): Insert a line above „CALL uashell“ and put „ckit-crk“ in it (it's very important that your config file runs ckit-crk.com before calling uashell or it won't work!). You can also remove GOG’s copy protection notice by deleting all lines from „@ECHO OFF“ to „pause“.

Gydion: Rest of the directions are the same. Hold down <ALT> while launching the game to run UAShell.
You can swap the contents of script.sh & script_alt.sh to have it default to UAShell vs Standard. You can also do all this from Terminal if preferred.
I can't run the crack

If this is about running FRUA on Mac, unfortunately I can't help you there, as I don't know anything about that. I recently followed my own instructions on Windows and they still worked. Hopefully someone with a Mac can jump in and help find the problem. That being said, the game is cracked already and removing the code check is not really required, it just saves you from having to press one more random key on starting the game.

Hm, in that case, could you describe with more detail what you did and what your problem is? I haven't quite understood it yet. What do you mean by "run any game in them"? Is that connected to running the crack? Do you mean you can't run any programs/games in DOSBOX?
So I had to run the UASHELL.BAT file by getting dos box to load it up. That got it to work.

I want to try out hacked modules in FRAU. I have spent the better part of a day trying to get UA Shell to run on a virtual Windows 10 machine and have only managed to get UA Shell to run but it gives an error of not being in the right directory (valid UA directory). Most of the instructions on this page do not work (looks like most of the commands in the UASHELL.bat file do not run properly in this version of DOSBox for whatever reason. I've tried it all - dragging files onto DOSBox to run was the only way I could get UASHINST.exe to run. I think I have everything in place but still wont work. Can anyone help?
ATTENTION! :)

Since the forum software has become even buggier in recent years, I don't dare to edit my original posts anymore, but there actually is a new and much easier way to apply hacked designs in FRUA now than the UAShell installation I described in 2015, at least for Windows, I guess. It's actually been available since 2017, and I overlooked it so far (my apologies!).

(Your anti-virus program may complain about it because it's a small unknown exe, but its fine, and my AVG gave me the okay after sending it to the test lab.)

How it works is you give it the path of your FRUA folder with the CKIT.exe in it and the folder of the design you wish to apply and press Apply, then exit and start FRUA. If you want to apply another design, you first press Revert to restore the original FRUA version, then Apply again with the path of your new design. Simple as that. Basically the same thing that UAShell did, but as a Windows program without complicated installation. (see screenshot)

Great alternatve.
Anyway The steps for installing UAShell are the same as before?

I think so, yes. IIRC I tried following them last year for re-installing FRUA on my (Win 10) laptop and it worked fine. If anyone encounters problems with it, let me know.

Ok Thanks for the info.
Oh, well, I had misunderstood this.

This simple exe/app, applies the hacked modules without the need of the DOS UAShell or its process of installing? I have noticed it because I had not remember that my GOG installaton was clean. I copied the uadap and It worked. The module is applied. All of this without the UAShell Installation. Is it right?

How was this app in he void for so many time? :):):)

Greetings!

Yes, that's right. You just install GOG's UA, then unzip the UADAP exe into the game folder and you're good to go, no need for any complicated DOSBox instructions anymore.

I'm rather dumbfounded and embarrassed about that myself, but it was only ever discussed on the UA forums for a short while and it seems, with me not being quite as active there anymore as I used to be, I just overlooked the thread back then. The author seems to be a very humble guy (if I'm not mistaken he generously hosts the forums, too), and there wasn't much advertising. And the few active forum members (mostly design authors and hackers rather than players) are pretty oldschool and probably so used to UAShell that they didn't throw a big party either, but yes, it's pretty awesome. :)

All I can say is that is very convenient. Easy, fast. It works. Of course it lack some functionality comparing with UAShell but I am pretty sure that is is enough for the standad user. It is fine as an alternative.

Greetings
Released an early version of a FRUA Module Manager which downloads the module list from UA File Archive and lets you download and install modules with a single click and apply the hacks with another click. I'm not yet 100% sure that the hacks are done exactly like UAShell does them. You can use it just for downloading and extracting modules.
