I read saw somewhere you can get a +5 longsword on level 1 ovEOTB but i cant find it...any body able to help?

yes, and the best weapon of eye beholder serie are in the first beholder...
it's the most powerfull of the game...

And you can get it as soon as you get to the first portal at the dwarves' camp, once you get the pendant, that and also the +5 darts all in the same little trip. In fact, there's a lot of good stuff you can get "early" on that trip, and some doors you can open from the "wrong" side.
[ETA]: forgot--the Ice Storm scroll is also obtainable on the same foray.
