Since Ubuntu and Linux Mint are both based on Debian, this game should work on Debian too, right?

It is not running for me in *buntu 12.04, so I assume it requires some libraries that are specific to *buntu 14.04. I cannot say any more than that, though...
I made it running on jessie except sound. You need to delete/rename some libraries to force game use libraries installed in your system. I dont have acces to my computer but it was definitelly libstdc++ listdc_s and maybe something else. Try to google error messages from console. The only issue is sound but it may be fixed the same way.

Or you can always use play on linux and install windows version which is basically the same. It should be much easier than hacking gog linux version.

It works for me on Debian Sid but without sound unless I remove some in-game libraries. I've fixed it with:

# cd wine_standalone/lib/i386-linux-gnu
# rm libpulse*

Without this change the game uses different libraries than the running desktop and sound won't work unless versions match. Really dumb.

You should be getting an update to version 14.04.1 of Ubuntu soon via Update Manager :)

Hopefully that will help with version problems :)
In ArchLinux it worked well with system wine instead of wine_standalone. I imagine that would work on any distro with a relatively recent wine.

On Fedora 20 I had no problem running it from scratch (after installing the necessary 32bit-libs).

Edit: Typo

It works out of the box on my debian jessie. About sound, i do not have pulseaudio installed.

Xbox pad works great as well after rebinding keys in game.
Only menus don't work with pad, i have to move and select with my keyboard.
