Nowhere advertised, of course.
I saw this, but no redefine i guess? (that's why we need Steam version for easy keys reconfigure through Steam Controller API)

I wrote a moment ago to GOG about controller support. My guess is there is a bug in the game's release, since when you press a controller button in the "Controller" or "Tutorial" screens the controls shown change to the controller picture/buttons correctly (so the game knows the controller is there), but nothing works in the menu or in-game.

I'll let you know what they tell me.

@Kamamura: The "absolutely unusable scheme" as you call it in your review in the game store page, is the exact same keyboard scheme the game had originally... You know, the one that actually lets you manage the quite complicated moves Conrad can make, and made Flashback an absolute best seller, present in almost every "Best N Games of All Times" list.

If you REALLY want to use other keys, it's very simple to remap them using SharpKeys or some other similar software. If you have any of the good OLD games from GOG, then I find it hard to believe this is the first game you find with "unusable" controls.
Controller works fine here.
Playing it with XBox controller right now, no problem.
This works fine with my PS3 pad masquerading as an Xbox pad as long as it's the only thing plugged in. If my USB Sega Saturn pad is plugged in the game uses that instead, which would be fine if it worked properly. It doesn't.

With my Saturn pad in use, down is up and up is down.
I haven't had any problems playing the game with the Steam Controller.
WHAT?

I saw a review talking about the no key rebindings (which is a total dealbreaker already) but no controller support?

This IS a cheapass port.

Have you checked the release date on this one?

Yeah, 2018, that's this year.

Gamers shouldn't have to resort to third party software for fucking key bindings.

This is a cheapass game port, end of story.

You have four posts above you saying they are playing using controllers, on top of mine of having a problem but not "no support", and you repeat the OP's statement? Are you serious?

Are there key rebinds?

You can criticize the game for the keyboard controls all you want, but don't play dumb. I repeat: are you serious?

If you hadn't read the other comments and jumped the gun, just say so.

All we see is that some people have issues and some don't.

The only conclusion we can come to is that there are issues with controller support.

Just because I find someone who doesn't have issues does NOT mean there aren't issues.

That said, I did go over the other comments, and that said, I still stand by my reaction.
Whatever you say.

issues ≠ no support

I have not resolved or found the cause of the issues in my case for lack of time and my PC being busy with other things, but GOG support has been very responsive.
Update on my issues with a controller: It was a conflict between two pieces of hardware (still the game's fault at some point). I copy my last message to GOG support below, and will update again if they have anything else to say.
"I was finally able to continue with this, and I can confirm the issue has something to do with the game detecting my Razer Tartarus as a controller (nothing to do with the Razer software, simply the hardware). Disconnecting the Tartarus USB cable is enough for the XBox controller to work properly in the menus and game (both by USB and Bluetooth), it is not even necessary to restart the PC.

Please try to send the information to the developer. This is the first and only game to have this issue, and I have played several games with both pieces of hardware working properly at the same time (Cuphead and Slain! from GOG, about a dozen DOS games through DOSBox emulation, and GTA V on Steam). I do not have another controller to try, but I think this issue would present itself with any other type of controller connected to the PC (one of them preventing the other from sending the commands).

I leave the request open only to see if you have anything to comment. Please feel free to close it afterwards."
The game does support controller use, the problem is that it only supports one type of controller properly. If you use a 360/Xbox One controller or anything that uses Xinput, you aren't going to have any issues at all. If you use some random peripheral that uses Direct Input or some other API, then you probably will run into some issues.

I have zero problems with my 360/Xbox One controllers but the adapter i use for my Sega Saturn pads uses Direct Input, resulting in peculiar button mapping and the D-Pad not working whatsoever. I'm sure there is probably a way around it with the Steam Controller too, but just be aware of there issues.

Having customizable keybindings would rectify all of this though, so hopefully we'll get that at some point.
