I know this game isn't that old, but so far how well would you folks say the GoG release is compared to DRM platforms like Steam or PSN (optimization, bugs, patches, etc)?

I noticed GoG customers get the short end of the stick sometimes [1]. Hopefully Firewatch isn't one of them...

As of now, the GOG version and Steam version are on par, and the updates have been timely.
