I know there have been a few threads about running Fallout and Fallout 2 in windowed mode, but how about we get one thread that gives a definitive, simple answer. So I suppose there are two questions:
1) Can it be done with the gog version?
2) If so, how? (with instructions and links if possible!)
Thanks in advance to everyone who answers!

geed, or others,
Any ideas on how I can get this to work on Windows 7 64-bit...?
I tried D3Dwindower with the above settings, no dice. I have both the D3D .exe and the Fallout .exe set for compatibility mode XP SP 3 and run as admin. The game always launches fine - just in full screen across my 27in... : (
Just picked up a half dozen GoG games picturing myself enjoying them all in windowed mode... hope they're not all this difficult to get running in this manner.
2) Use D3Dwindower
find it here : http://nukacola.com/news/dload.php?action=file&file_id=109
( "tlcharger" = "download")
This forum link is full of spam. Do you have something more useful?
Dude, geed, you are a life saver! I was hoping I would not have to play the classic Fallouts horribly stretched across my monitor. Thanks for the easy instrustions.
I couldn't get D3DWindower to work :( I followed all the instructions but it still ran full-size.
Is it compatible with Windows 7? The solution post in this thread was posted back in July...

Have you tried using sfall instead?
Im not too good with computers, i recently purchased Fallout 1 and 2, but when i launch the games the resolution isnt right and i cant see the left side of the screen, i had the same problem with Broken sword 2 but i used the ctrl, alt and + keys which automatically changed the screen resolution to fit my moniter, however with these games that doesnt work, ive tried to run the game in compatability with win95, 98, 2000, tried it in various resolution modes, and still, when i launch the game nothing changes, im hoping theres a solution without having to download any software or patching the exe cos i havent got a clue about any of that, just want to know the hot keys like on Broken sword 2, so if anyone knows, please help, thanks in advance.
Bah, screw D3D Windower. Everyone should be using sFall.
Trying to use sFall with Fallout 1 on my new Win7 system. Damned if I can remember how I got it to work last year when I first did it on my old WinXP system, but now when I run it I get a message that says...
You're trying to use sfall with an incompatible version of fallout
Was expecting 'Fallout 2 v1.02 US'
fallout2.exe was an unexpected size. Expected 0x122800 but got 0x12fe00
...eh, help please?

You're trying to use Fallout 2 sfall in Fallout 1. You can find sfall for fallout 1 from my site (by going links -> infinity engine and scrolling down almost to the end. You'll find all other relevan fallout 1 mods there as well). Note that development of sfall for fallout 1 was stopped over two years ago and no further development is expected (so the 1.18e version I have is 'final' version). Sfall for fallout 2 is on the other hand under heavy development and 2.8b version was just released 4 days ago.

Well, that takes care of it. Thank you. Curious why the author didn't name them sfall1 & sfall2 to avoid potential confusion? Regardless, just having them available is greatly appreciated.

They were originally developed in parallel (you may notice that they share changlog up to last sfall1 version) and sfall zip for fallout one was named sfall1.zip. Timeslip probably did not see need to differentiate after he focussed solely on Fallout 2 sfall especially after he removed download for sfall1 altogether (this happened when he turned project open source). From his point of view sfall1 no longer exist so, please, don't bug him about it.

how do you get the D3D windower to work? when i try to press the arrow nothing happens. yes i followed all the directions. please help
This post is somewhat dated, but unfortunately still appears as a top Google search result, which is how I found it in the first place. Frustratingly, many of the required files are found under obnoxious time-delayed download sites, while other patches are no longer maintained. Still others have broken URLs.

Consequently, I've summarized all of these changes and provided my own mirror of the files here:

Playing Fallout in a Window

which should make things significantly easier.
sFall does not work for me. Does anyone know any alternatives?
