I'm playing the UK version 1.2 from GOG... No children appear and a few other restrictions... Should I dig through the internet installing every patch I find so I don't feel I'm missing things or plat it as it was intended for the UK? So confusing as theres soooo many patches! GRRR! lol
This actually came up in another thread:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/fallout_series/recommended_mods_for_a_first_fallout_1_playthrough/page1

It looks like they recommend some unofficial patches by TeamX which may remove the censorship. Hopefully some of those people will post here as well because I don't know personally how to fix it (I played with a disc version, then bought on GOG but haven't replayed yet).
I would love more gore! Anyway... I think The UK version with the 1.2 patch is the same as the US version... Ours was censored on release I think... Waltorious I think you've become my Fallout mentor and guru lately. lol :)

Well I actually thought that my disc version came from Europe... got it on ebay a while back. Anyway, it definitely had kids in it (in Fallout 2 anyway, I don't remember about Fallout 1).
I started without any mods, but when I read which ones were available, I installed a few and I think they enhance the game. Stuff like increased resolution to fit your monitor.

I got all of the ones I used from links from this forum.
My 64 bit winrar extracter can't seem to find the Team x patches. Any advice?
Not sure about in the original, but in Fallout 2 it's kind of funny how people were in a rush to return the children to the game. I get the arguments about how it's just annoying to censor such a thing, and that it's unrealistic to never see any children*, but all the little bastards do is running around erratically and steal your items. It would be cool if there were quests involving them**, or even a significant character that was a child.

* Though this is the case in pretty much every single WRPG and many more games besides - essentially most games where you can kill what you please

** It'd be pretty awesome if a thief character could take some orphans under his wing and train them to be a thieving group, Oliver Twist style

I didn't think the type of processor would make a difference to WinRAR compatibility. Are you sure you have the latest version, or even that the download didn't corrupt? Here's a rar of all the add-ons, named in the recommended order of installation.

Convert to 7Zip!
Just re-installed 64 bit version, winrar-x64-40b5, from rarlab.com. I can see that the the GoG Rar files are downloaded, along with other rar files, when I choose a directory to download them into, but I can't find the files otherwise.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by not finding the files. Do you mean you can't find the rar's browsing thru winrar, you can't see the files in the folder when you open it or the files are not assosiacted with winrar (it don't open with winrar when you double click. If the broblem is with file association, you may need to install the program as admin and if the installer does not allow setting association during installation you may have to run it as admin once to set the file associations withing the program. If that does not help, try installing it outside program files folder (again as admin) to see if it helps.

Unfortunately, while I too suggest you switch to 7-zip (it can open/unpack pretty much any archive format out there (including .rar) and has it's own archving format/alcorythm that is very effective), I can't guarantee installing it will solve the file association problem it self as I had problem getting the file association to stick on another persons compuiter that had 64-bit Vista. I don't quite rember the step that worked for me but I know it was problem with UAC.

If none of the above help, last thing that comes to mind is diabling UAC (temporarily as your games won't find saves if you've saved while it's on) and installing and running (if file association needs to be set from the program) the program while UAC is disabled. You can find instructions via google searching 'disable uac' and choosing instructions for your system.

Go to Petrell's Domain, go to downloads and then to fallout folder then download and install (note you need 7-zip to open most files I host) 'fallup121rc3.7z'. That file alone will convert the game into uncensored US version.

Optionally you could download and install:
fallup13.7z - TeamX unofficial patch version 1.3.5. Fixes bugs.

f1npcmod.7z - Allows NPC companions to level up, change armour and combat tactics.

sfall1.7z - sfall for fallout 1. Allows use of mouse scroll wheel in the inventory, barter, conversation and save/load menus as well as middle mouse button. Discontinued long ago so most options don't work well or at all so be warned if you mess with the ddraw.ini file. If something goes wrong, reinstall sfall and overwrite to restore original settings.

Fallout1_High_Resolution_Patch_v2.2b.zip - Obviously allows use of higher resolutions. However text, and everything gets smaller the higher you set it so text will become illegible at certain resolution and small details will be harder and harder to spot the higher you set it. Causes performance issues in some systems.

Edit: You may have to start new game for changes to take effect (well probably sfall and high res patch are possible to install mid game. Haven't tested)

Update: By ,"Not showing up.", I meant that Zip files don't appear to be showing up in my windows explorer, except when I download new Zip files. 7-zip appears to work very well, thank you, tested it on the fallout bible download, but pdf also doesn't show up in the GoG fallout folder.
Pdf and zip file icons visible through 7-zip, but not through windows explorer. Tried extracting TeamX_patch_ENG_1.2wzip, and opening falloutw.exe, said it could not find the master file, asked for cd, failed to installed. Attempted with 'fallup121rc3.7z', said it could not open output files falloutw.exe and a sound/sfx file. Please stick with me, really appreciate the help so far.
P.S, What's UAC?
I miss being robbed... makes fallout "Fallout".

Could you post a screenshot of folder with such files. I believe it's file association issue but you saying you can't actually see the files makes it bit confusing (you should be able to see the files but icons should be default used by you system). On 7-zip file association is set by starting 7-zip, going to 'tools', then settings and choosing 'choose all' (the page should list of file extensions starting from '001' with check boxes next to them).

They are not installers, just files packed inside archives. You are supposed to exract them to your fallout folder (default is "c:\program files(x86)\GOG.com\Fallout" I believe)

It's Microsoft's brilliant security feature first implemented on Windows Vista that tends to cause more problems that most mallware and viruses out there. See here for more details of what it is.

Basically it protects your program files folders from modification and requires adminstrator privlidges from programs in order to allow them to make them. There are plenty of problems with this.

For starters every program pre-vista are programmed to behave like they have those privlidges all the time so they come in conflict with it on regular basis. This is reason all pre Vista programs and all games should ALWAYS (I really can't stress that enough) be installed outside program files folder (use "C:\games" or something).

Second, even with post-vista programs the behaviour is erratic at best and never seems to tell when there's a problem with something. It might stop one installation/patching/modification and not another for no apparent reason and it never tells you it does so or why (heck, I had problem installing Windows live on an Vista machine from Windows Update for gods sake and UAC never prompted anything. It just silently stopped the installation and only way to get it to install was to disable UAC all together. I never re-enebled it and had had 95% less problems than UAC was enabled).

It causes problems with many mods/fan patches and even such simple things like modifying game settings. Again, the behaviour is completely erratic and I've yet to see usefull popup (pretty much it's "do you really want to install this application?' after I start an installation (useless and annoying as I install alot, patch a lot, mod games a lot and modify game files a lot) then it seem to randomly decide wether or not to let program install fully, partially or just say screw you and prvent it from installing.

So basically to ensure that everything works properly you need to install everything outside program files folder and install and run everything with adminstrator privlidges defeating the whole purpose of UAC.

There's plenty of other problems with it but I'm too tired to list all of them but I can safely say that who ever who ever developed this abomindation should be shot, then shot a gain, cremated, their ashes dropped on pool of acid, the pool scooped up and fired to the sun to make extra sure that all traces of their existance are erased.

How do I take pictures, and where do they go? The print screen button doesn't seem to do anything. I Went into 7-zip tools and options, selected all for association, but it changed nothing in explorer. When I checked on the 7-zip settings, all the associated programs were unchecked.
