Hey, I'm having trouble getting custom portraits to work, does anyone know how I could get it to work?
I've played this game alot, if you got campaign questions I'm sure I've got answers. I'll check back every so often.
Here's afew I've found that are quite good (or heard):
Fallout Redux, like the weapon balancing mods, but it improves and implements alot of things, and fictionalizes real life items.
It improves alot of things aswell as the portraits for some of your recruits (farsight no longer looks hideous, thank god) AND custom chars. and alot of storyline char fluff.

Races mod:
This mod basically lets you play as any of the other races seen in this game (with the exception of reapers I believe. And dogs):
Deathclaw (good melee chars, and MAYBE other stuff)
Humanoid bot (Surprisingly good unarmed, PE ST and Endurance are stuck at 7 (endurance because robots can't get ANY armor) charisma however, is stuck at a terrifying 1. Robots and cyborgs don't inspire much in people apparently It SHOULD BE NOTED THOUGH, They make FAR more capable CQC fighters then any other character. Being capable of hitting hard with their punch (Apparently that point thing sticking out of your char's elbows? Not for show.) and hitting twice with your kick maybe). A good idea for this race? CQC, all the way, consider chosing kamikaze as it now has no drawbacks (I think, after all, it means you can't get anything from armor and robots can't wear any anyways?) OOOR (and this is mid to late game) a heavy weapons trooper, they have good perception already and can be modded to be capable heavy weapons troops. Note, early on you want to be cautious, until you get a toolbox you can't be healed.
Super mutant (Yea, good with big guns and stuff)
Ghoul (not sure WHY you'd want to play this race, but you can!)
Dislike the presets? Remember that you can modify the presets, modify them to your hearts content!

Enclave mod:
I haven't been able to play this, so I'm just going to tell you what I've seen:
Let's you play as Enclave soldiers (Your pretty much bad guys/Grey area dudes).
Let's you fly a verti (ever wondered what that's like?)
More guns? And armor?

Do you mean you want to make your own custom portraits?

Basically:
- make portrait 75x100
- set mode to Greyscale
- export as PNG
- run "FT Tools.exe" and use the "PNG to ZAR" option to convert the PNGs
- copy the .zar files to core/gui/char
- add the names of your zar files (without extension) to the end of the text files in /core/tables/male.txt or /core/tables/female.txt (one name per line, and make sure there is no blank space after each name)

If there aren't any text files in the tables folder then just grab them from HostalZa's portrait pack and edit them.

I made a portrait pack! (preview image attached to this post)

There are instructions in the readme.txt, including how to change recruit portraits.

It's also posted at NMA, but I think you need to be registered and logged in to download forum attachments there:

Hi guys. I noticed some talk about my mod Fallout Tactics Redux here, so everyone may be interested to know I recently updated the mod to version 1.2. It's a major update, with lots of new content as well as more original game bugs fixed and original game lost content restored than ever.

Apparently since I never used this forum before I'm not approved to post urls, but information about the mod including the new download link is at the Fallout modding wiki website, or just use Google.

Enjoy.

Hello. Could someone tell me which mod I should use just to unlock the special encounter characters in the recruits pool? I'm a General now, at Bunker Epsilon, have found all of the special encounters and did all of them correctly and nevertheless none of them show up in the recruits pool. I may have done Riddick too soon, according to one forum post I found, and was willing to accept the loss, but I really want the Grimm Brothers. I am willing to overwrite a recruit with the special encounter characters if that's what it takes, but how do you do that?
Thanks!
alright guys so i have an issue here and hoping someone can shed some light on it, i owned this game as a kid. the cd's were version 1.13 and after letting someone borrow my disks they got ruined. i recently bought it on steam to play around with. the problem is that the steam version is fully patched. i already beat it again and really want to play around with some exploits/glitches from the unpatched version, mainly the ability to duplicate items during special encounters. so iv been digging through the files looking for patch files to try to delete but seems they hid the patches well besides the readme file explaining which patch did what.
i already did some searching for crack files and the only one i was able to find it out of date and doesnt work with newer operating systems. anyone have any suggestions here

I think you're going about this the wrong way, spending a lot of unnecessary time if what you're mainly looking for is to give your characters certain items. The game comes with an easy to use editor that can be used to modify the sorts of things you're looking for. Just start the editor/mapper, open any maps (such as Special Encounters) you'd like to change, and add whatever items you like there so you'll find them when you visit the map. The only thing to keep in mind is that changes won't affect maps stored in a savegame, so you'll have to edit whatever particular map before you visit that map for the first time during your current playthrough.
Reinstalled FT decade after first playhtrough, wanted to test few mods. Let's see...

Enclave - wow, this thing is HUGE and worth playthrough. But the first mission is more in the Commandos spirit theme. I'm not joking.
Awaken - cool mod that try to make something in the FO1 and FO2 spirit despite limited dialog window (no choices here).
Abandoned after reaching 1st city where you have to choose one side. I had enough of this crap after Fallout 1.5 where it was overused.

And the last one - Redux. Easy installation, liked changes like new guns (replaced) and overall changes (real time combat with easy to die characters make it really intense, I love it) except two things.
One - annoying trumpet in main menu and editor. Why...
Second - removing most portraits for created characters and available recruits with some wrestlers. Why x2
I had to use editor to replace portraits but ended making my dream team of 4 that replace Stich and Farsight at the first mission (four people is overkill) from some games (in that case it was Planet Alcatraz's Vampire Squad).

There is also that Mod Manager thing which sounds cool and dandy but can't make it work (I did make it work year or two back but can't do it again, weird) and it need own mod installers to make it work and most of them are older versions of the mods (for example Redux 1.2 while recent version is 1.3 etc.).
Has anybody done a skirmish mode for Fallout"Tactics?
First of all, all links in OP are dead. I'd report it, but apparently you can only report posts for spam, so I did that by accident instead.

Second, has anyone made a general bug fix/improvement/restoration mod for the base game? I tried Fallout Tactics Redux v13, but it was so bad I couldn't make it into the game proper before shutting everything down again. The ReadMe gave me high hopes, but the whole thing was beyond amateurish.
