It is

F:NV Steam version has some random crashes and minor stability errors on Windows 8.1 / 10, these are the only things I could remember

GOG Version runs smooth on any System, probably because (like old games) GOG has put it's finger doing some tweaks

I own both versions btw

I am playing GOG FO:NV right now, and it crashes a fair bit. Much more than FO3.

It only crashed for me maybe twice? That's through the entire campaign plus all the DLC! But I did apply a bunch of mods first, which gave a very bug-free, stutter-free and crash-free experience:

(1) Script Extender
(2) ENBoost CTD / Memory Patch
(3) Stutter Remover
(4) Yukichigai Unofficial Patch
(5) Vanilla UI Plus
(6) NVAC - New Vega Anti Crash
I played without mods and didn't crash for me, but well what caused yours to crash?
My F:NV Steam version would freeze and even crash on loading screens, so far my GOG save/version is stable (so far)

I would 100% buy it from the people at GOG. They do edits to the game to make it stable with newer OS's. Unlike the steam version which liked to crash ever another minute no matter what edits, windows live removers, or whatever I tried to make the steam version stable failed. I broke down and bought the GOG version and it worked out of the box. I'm running with over 145 plugins NCM Large Texture Pack multiple 4k texture enhancers, RH Ironsights, WEP, EVE, EXE, Fallout 3 Hirezed, WMK, Loads of animation mods, UPP pack 1 and 2 and much more and I haven't had any problems at all once you set conflict winners for your mods with FO3Edit.
I've tried both versions, and managed to make steam's version run pretty consistently. Gog didn't need any tweaks, and runs well... But I don't know why, I'm getting smalll fps drops with the same settings and the stutter remover. I believe it could be related to the DLC's that come with GOG's version, since I didn't get them on steam. If anyone can help with this... I really prefer Gogs version nonetheless.
