I gave up loading it through GOG, I would get the roulette wheel spinning and it seemed to spin forever. Now I just run it with administrative privileges and it runs great.

Pete0714: Yep, the support team member just told me this problem will not be fixed by gog. Suggested a mod. I just wish gog would be more clear about when their product is basically broken, and in need of diy fixes. I expect that from steam or origin, I held gog to a higher standard. till now.

MasterW: That's unfair to GoG. There are thousands of bugs left in every TES and Fallout games which are fixed by modders. Then there are thousands of technical bugs which cannot be fixed by modders but only by Bethesda.

If you want to be mad at someone, direct it at Bethesda. You can't expcet GoG to spend thousands of hours decompiling binaries (which they probably aren't even allowed to do) and hopefully fix some obscure Gamebryo engine bug.
but should you not expect your brother, who knows that the product is not fully correct, to be honest with you?

ethics and business do not mix do they?

LOL!!!
the beast is not upright.
Esau wasn't upright.

God hated Esau, he cheated his brothers with his invention, the scale.
when you see a scale, know Esau is at hand.

scales on those US dollars too, funny huh?

Revelations 12 coming to pass soon too, 100 days till that day, and a eclipse 1 month before.
1 Thessalonians chapter 5 refers to that day as "the day of the lord".

he who seeks profits in the debt of others will be removed soon.
he who defraudeth the poor shall be counted as a man of blood.
this is to say that he will face 2 deaths.

US funds are created in their entirety in that fashion, by defrauding the native (red) children of this nation, and all nations have participated in that act and upheld an unjustifiable rule which amounts to enslavement (wrongful possession of a man) and murder, because of this act, for the sake of upholding non-rightful rule so that you can pilfer out internationally through "commerce".

90% gone.. that's what the book promises, for they upheld not the Jubilees, because if they DID.. they have to return the land to the original owner, and they won't, so i am sitting here laughing at the foolishness, but as that red descendant i know my place with god is good, for I made no lie against my brother.

hate me?
I love you!
I realise it's probably not what you want to hear, but if you want to know the best way to get NV to work well...

I highly recommend the following, irrespective of which version of NV you have (by that I mean, I consider them essential if you don't want to punch your monitor because the game crashed again or yet another quest got bugged so you can't complete it):

- New Vegas Script Extender: Needed for a lot of mods, including some of the below. http://nvse.silverlock.org/

- Fallout Mod Manager: For painless mod management. http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54991/?

- New Vegas Anti Crash: This should stop most crashes. For me it still crashes occasionally, but nowhere near as often - and I can't remember if I even ever had the never-ending loading bug. http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/?

- YUP : Fixes a vast array of bugs without changing content or gameplay (IMO this is essential) http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51664/?

Unfortunately I can't see GOG fixing this, unless of course by "fixing it" one means "comes pre-installed with the above" - which is possible, since they did it with Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines (albeit that only required one patch).

Note that installing only the above will ensure you can play NV with a minimum of crashes and other bugs, while keeping the core gameplay, mechanics, quests etc. pretty much exactly as it was released (barring bug-fixes to those things).

Naturally you can install other mods on top of these, assuming they're compatible - there are specific YUP patch-projects to ensure YUP can be used with other mods, and AFAIK the anti-crash fix is compatible with all other mods.

For what its worth, I gave up and got my game exchanged for wallet credit. I just loaded up my steam version and added the nvse, nvac and anti stutter as I always had before. No sense in buying the same game twice if no improvement. Oh well, just disappointed.

I guess its because of the changes that they have made with other games to make them more stable, that I expected the same treatment for this game.

Infinite loading screen work around for me: I choose to load the first save game I ever made (in Goodsprings) which is a very small file. After the game starts, I open the Load menu again and load my current game.

[Edit] Turns out I was wrong. It has also failed to load a couple of times even using the small save game to start. New theory: I have noticed if I wait during the intro screens until the music comes in strong (all the horns and base sound) and then wait until shortly after the background switches, I seem to be loading any save game OK. My current thought is the game may still be loading background stuff which causes a load glitch if I try and start the game before it is ready. Who knows... but this now seems to work for me. [end Edit]

I read some forum posts that part of the problem is the ballooning size of the save file, among other suggestions. Figuring the small size of the first save should get things running, I tried that. So far this is the only method working consistently for me as I also did not want to install various 'mods'.

This game definitely has many bugs built in but I can't blame GoG for that. In fact, I'm glad they are able to offer a DRM free PC version that I can mess around with as I see fit. I had to give up on my Xbox 360 game that bugged out with all my friendly factions turning hostile and I could not complete the game after 100-odd hours of game play (I do love to poke around...). I bought a retail PC copy (Steam) intending to try things again but then GoG offered this before I ever installed my Steam copy.

Enjoying very much poking around in the wasteland again!

Pete0714: I put in a support request to get an answer on this, though it sounds a bit like its basically the same issue. Seriously, I would have thought they could have at least dealt with that one. Is there really any reason other than DRM to have bought this on gog instead of just modding up my steam version?
I understand where your coming from, but i gotta admit, this version DOES run better than STEAMs.

I can't even play this on steam, I can however play a GOG version, I am using NVSE, NVAC and YUP.

I had a couple random crashes, bad timing as well (as is the usual) on those crashes but still, only a couple.

I have maybe 6 hours in so far in this version, the original that we all payed more for (STEAM) should run more like this.. this just isn't right, to use it pay twice, they should have addressed the problems rather than let the public do their job for them to collect again for nothing but removing the drm & games for windows live components.

at least it works..

whatever..

TY for that info, never heard of that, will keep in the back of my mind in case.

running really good for me though..

I play on a laptop and the only time i have trouble is if i brush across my mouse (which is disabled when i plug in my Naga) but it still sometimes crashes.. I have my touchscreen disabled all the time, never use it anyways (retarded idea there, touch screen for a laptop).

game wasn't intended for a laptop, but runs really good (compared to the STEAM original release).

Pete0714: I guess its because of the changes that they have made with other games to make them more stable, that I expected the same treatment for this game.
Those changes are mostly due to old games not running on modern hardware like they're supposed to. Fallout 3 & NV do run exactly "as supposed" by Bethesda. Giving the devs more time to iron out those bugs wasn't a high priority for them.

If there's fan-made or dev-made "aftermarket" patches for a game, GoG could apply those, of course. But preloading a game like FO / Skyrim with uncommon things such as those would potentially undermine the modability of the game - and it's commonly known these games are modded to hell and back. Sometimes literally. Breaking that just wouldn't be in the majorities interest.

In general, if you don't care for DRM free games, which is a feat in and on itself... well, stick to wherever you wanna get your games from. If you wanna support DRM free gaming, stick to GoG as much as possible. We like what those guys do for the community, and those are some serious standards other platforms and distributers are nowhere near.
Thanks to DylGOG for the "load your first save" tip... That work-around did the trick and got me playing again... :)

Some additional info: I didn't really have a problem until I'd made quite a number of saves... then all of a sudden, I started getting the infinite loading screen quite often... Being the sort of person who likes to experiment (and thinking that DylGOG's trick loads one of the very first files in the list), I decided to see if the infinite-loading problem would still occur if I got rid of most of my saved files... So I sorted by date in Windows Explorer, selected all of them except the two oldest and the two most recent ones, then used 7zip to archive+delete them. With only 4 saved games left and the rest in a .7z file, I can now "continue" again from the main menu without incident even from my oldest/largest save file... 8 or 9 successful "continues" so far, without incident (which is record-breaking for me... I used to have 50/50 odds of getting the infinite loading glitch.) ;D

Maybe the infinite loading bug has more to do with the number of save files and not the age/size of any particular one? :)
I edited my original post as I finally ran into the load glitch again even loading my first (small save).

I thought I stumbled on another work around (see edit in original post) but I also happened to have deleted a number of extra save games...

As Species8472rc3 noted, maybe it's the number of large saves that start building up....

Species8472rc3: Good suggestion, by the way. I don't seem to be having load issues any more so I'm going keep doing your suggestion and my "loading time" work around and hope for the best! Seems to be working so far!
The reason it does this has nothing to do with GOG this game even on consoles was very easy to get a dirty corrupt save file.. This is why i do multiple saves and then you throws mods on top of this issue and some people have tried transferring saves from their previous game (steam) and that certainly is a bad idea for trouble.. I obviously screwed the pooch on mine.. I can play and load my saves just fine but some reaosn i am unabke to select NEW GAME it just clicks warns me about overwriting an autosave and then.. CLICK nothing all i can do is LOAD anf CONTINUE now.. Sucks i wanted to try DUST and if i go to my earliest save it tosses my in Goodspring in the middle of 10 brutal cannibals and like 6 wild dogs... On DUST it starts you somehwere South on the map.. Close to the crashed vertibird...

DAMMIT long trek to there without fast travel option. I need the note to start knowing where to go dangit LoL

Here are all the stability mods I run NVSE, YUP, FNV 4GB, Enb Boost, NVSR, NVAC, Zans Autopurge Crash Protector, LOOT, and more but I still get infinite loading screens evry 15-20 min. My PC specs are GTX 1080, I7 7700k, and 16gb of ram. All my other games run fine heavily modded Oblivion, Skyrim, Skyrim SE, Fallout 3, and Fallout 4 etc.... Fallout New Vegas on the other hand never works for me no matter what I try anymore.

You don't actually need the fnv4gb for the GOG version, GOG made them Large Address Aware, you still need it for the steam version, but not the GOG. The unofficial patch can also cause random crashes. I just use the multicore threading fix with the 4gb patched nvse. Outside the game I run cleanmem, with the game.exe and nvse loader.exe added to it's list. No crashes runs great.

I was running Fallout New Vegas v1.4.0.525 and I'd just encountered the infinite loading bug. Is there a fix for the GOG version yet?

Just encountered the same issue, some hours into the game (test purposes), on save no.38. So I decided to place the previous saves in a different folder (just in case) and keep just that particular one. Started the game, loaded save 38 and it worked. My guess? Might have something to do with the number of saves/filesize. Too many, perhaps?
