I recently picked up Fallout 3 and it seems to keep freezing every few minutes after i start it up. I'm not running any mods and i was hoping that the GOG version was more stable. Anyone else got a similar issue?

Try restricting the number of cores the game is using. This solved my crashing problem. Google can tell you all about it.

Just [icked up the GOG version and it ran for 1.5 hours but then started freezing, I have the retail CD version in addition to the newly pirchased GOG version and GOG picked up my saves, not sure if thats the issu but yeah, beyond frustrating, been dicking arounf with this bs for 8+ years now.
It's a multicore issue. You can fix it by doing the following:

- Go to /Documents/My games/Fallout 3/
- Find fallout.ini
- Open with notepad
- Use find (Ctrl F) and type "bUseThreadedAI=0" without quotes
- Replace "bUseThreadedAI=0 " with "bUseThreadedAI=1"
- Add an extra line and type "iNumHWThreads=2"

Did that in my retail CD version 3 years ago, didnt do squat, but to be fair I'll try it in the GOG version and report back.

I promissed to report back, didn't do your trick per say, but I did force the comp to go to 1 core via msconfig, and I played this thing for 5 hours with not ONE SINGLE FREEZE....knock on wood..

Thank you so much ... your solution works for me. GOG should put your solution in their Fallout 3 installation files

This also fixed my issue in FNV where I couldn't even load a save.
Hi guys!
I wonder - for me there's no "bUseThreadedAI" in the .ini file. Any idear what I did wrong (I did search the right folder and stuff).
