Just to let everyone know, the new Fallout 3 addon Operation Anchorage is up on the xbox marketplace in Australia. I presume this means its out everywhere and probably for the windows version as well.
Apparently you get the new mission(s) from a radio beacon your pip-boy receives so keep an eye open for it to start the quest.
Happy playing this in LIVE supported regions. :(
If you play it please tell us whether they make even a half assed attempt to explain why you can carry the weapons you get in the simulation out with you into the rest of the game.

^^This.
It's pretty much exactly as I speculated in some other thread that may not even have been here.
The simulation is an old army training thing that the brotherhood outcasts have discovered at an old army facility underneath downtown DC. They're there to get into the armoury but it'll only unlock for registered personnel and the only way to fool the system is to complete the training sim. You don't get to keep the exact weapons and things you get in the sim (in fact the enemy disintegrate when you kill them, the program basically de-spawns them so you can't pick up as much) but get to loot the armoury after the sim.
The slick gear includes the chinese stealth suit (basically combat armour with +15 to sneak) the chock sword the chinese general (who i talked to death) was carrying and the very nice Gauss rifle (an energy weapons based sniper rifle I think) which is very expensive to fire, a full microfusion cell per shot! The way you get it is that there's one of each in the armoury when you finish the training and you can pick & choose what you want.
The sim itself is set up like a game, there's health & ammo stations around the place and interactive objects are highlighted in orange, sort of like a COD style look. I'm not sure if I like that as a bit of a pisstake of overly helpful FPS' or dislike it as making it a bit simple. They handle the invisible wall thing quite nicely, the program was clearly made for a limited area and when you approach the edge it gets all pixellated & blue to indicate the end of the area, sort of like how assassin's creed did it (though without the arbitrary 'unlock this area' job which always sucks)
So in other words, it's stupid, even stupider than basic F3, but not as unashamedly retarded as RPGCodex had hoped... Oh well.
Considering who made it, the new stupid FPS features are probably the former meant to be disguised as the latter.
I read a quote from either the dev team or perhaps it was from a character in the game that really drove home the stupidity of it. Something like, "It's a military simulation, it's not meant to be 100% accurate." ... I sure hope that was ingame dialogue... at least then it might be a joke.

I don't remember the dialogue exactly but there is an undercurrent of parody running through the contents of the simulation. The characters and dialogue in the non-sim parts are basically the same as the rest of the game
Noone who was annoyed that F3 was made by someone other than interplay using van buren (Some of them on NMA clearly need grief counselling about it. That or they desperately need to get laid) will be impressed with the DLC, that much is pretty certain but if you enjoyed the main game then you'll likely enjoy Operation Anchorage

It's okay... it's very action focused, which is not the better part of FO3 (or any FO really).
I enjoyed myself though... and yes, I am a FO3 fan, so factor that in. Excellent game, other than some poor story portions near the end.

My only question is do you get to see Russia?
Nope, just a possibly new spot in the wasteland (Can't remember if there was anything there before) and the snowy rocky chinese infested land of alaska.

i haven't gotten the dlc yet, if you tell me the coordinates I can go there and take pictures, it might take me a while because I'll have to start a new game though.
