King_of_Ithaca: Make sure you're accessing the right directory. When I first tried using it, I made the mistake of directing it to specific saves. My memory's fuzzy, but I think you have to direct it to the folder for all saves...
Someone can check me. It's been a while since I used it.

when I extract the editor file from the DL to fallout 2 it either just shows game data or maps but no saved files. (I tried with 2 different games so far)
Update: Version 2.2 of the resolution patch is out:

King_of_Ithaca: Both are fine to use together.

I found I had to re-apply the resolution patch after installing Killaps patch, just so's you know.
Just to clarify before purchasing Fallout2 from GOG.
The High Res and Killaps pathes work with the GOG version?
Thanks for your time.

Go here and click patches.
You'll find a thread with a working URL in it.
It's the easiest way to keep track of changing URLs for new versions at NMA.

Very helpful!
Now I just need to try and get it running with whatever mods I want. Hopefully I'll have more luck than I did with Gothic.
The restoration project mod worked fine for me.
Simply copy the game directory before you make any attemps to install a mod.
If you screw up, you can delete it and copy back the old one to try again.
I tried to download the patches but it kept telling me I had to put it in the exe directory, and no matter how many different folder things I tried in my X86 folder for Fallout2 it didn't like any of them. So I cancelled the download to do some research and decided I would do a manual download and install it when I could figure it out. Now, I cannot even get to the site with the patch. I get this - phpBB : Critical Error - instead.
I cleared all my cookies and temp files, looked for strays of the aborted download in my computer and didn't find any.
I went online and checked other sites, and whenever I try to get Killap's patch, I get the same error. I would sure like to get the two most recommended patches.
Thanks for your help.

JustJJ: *snip*

NMA is down at the moment. Try downloading them from killap.net or patches scrolls for time being.
Thank you Petrell, I did go to Killap as you suggested and downloaded two files, On, the unofficiial patch, and the restoration patch. Now, I'm a bit confused, though.
The link above with the two recommended patches is now working. So I went there and also downloaded the high resolution patch. My delimma is whether to install all three, or just the 'unofficial' patch and the high resolution one.
I don't mind that I will have to start over, even though I've already done the SF trek and got the good armor. It has continued to bug me that I didn't get the melee training I should have before I left 'home'. And since I've seen the huge list of bugs this game has I definitely want to use the patches.
I have the K9 companion, and Sulik. But let me ask you something. Are companions really necessary? I played Fallout 3 without one till I got ... oh heck, what's his name, Fawkes? and of course he was awesome, but that was toward the end of the game. I tend to be a loner and don't like being responsible for the health and equipment of a "cast of characters."
Edit: I went ahead and instatlled the three patches I downloaded, So far, I don't notice a lot of difference in appearance. I elected to start the game over. The first thing I noticed was that I seemed to be more skilled in the original Trial experience. As I did the first time, I stole the key from the dude blocking the last door with no problem. This time, I was able to get both the melee upgrade and the spear upgreade, so that was new. So far, so good., time will tell.

No, companions are not necessary. I don't remember if they are ivolved much in any quest either (well sulik is in restoration project) either. As you can't controll your companions they tend to get in the way or hit you with brust fire if you accidentially give them weapon with brust fire mode. They tend to be most usefull as pack mules.
In my opinion companions/helpers even more annoying in 1st/3rd person games as they usually don't handle the enviroment too well falling off gliff, tall building or down some chasm or another. And if game is melee heavy, you'll end up swinging your weapon at your helper/companion more often than not and they generally get in the way or just get themselves killed.
As for installing killap's patch or restoration project, you only need one of them as restoration contains the patch as well. I'm not sure if installing both causes trouble(hopefully you installed the patch first) but it's generally not adviced.
Sorry I didn't get back here sooner. Had a bit of a problem with an eye.
Thanks Petrell. I screwed up and my computer got messed up and I had to delete the game. I've had an eye problem for two weeks and my vision was a bit blurry and I got careless. Actually, I can barely read what I'm typing right not, but that's not just my eye, it's the colors being used here. Thanks for the advice, I'll do it your way.
I don't mind that I have to start over though. You are so right, the companions are a darned nuisance. Well, I'll take that back, the dog was helpful with the rats and later the geckos in the Toxic cave while I was leveling up.
Is the search for Sulik's sister important in the game? Is it possible to find her on my own without him tagging along?
Thank you for all your help.
