So it took me a long time to figure out how to get the GECK. Arroyo is almost dead and I need to go back and forth to a couple places and then get all the way back to Arroyo. I've accomplished a TON of stuff, gotten a lot of weapons and experience, and I don't want to have to do a ton of backtracking with an old save.
Is there a mod out there that will allow me to disable the time limit for Arroyo?
There is no time limit in FO2 apart from the engine's 13 year one, which can be addressed by sfall IIRC. What is happening to Arroyo is part of the story, don't worry about it.

what is this sfall IIRC?

dragonbeast: what is this sfall IIRC?

It's a set of engine modifications for the classic game Fallout 2 by Interplay. Includes fixes for bugs in the original engine, allows fallout to run correctly on modern operating systems, and adds additional features for modders.
The main features are:
Increase movement and combat speed to up to 10x normal.
Play fallout in a window or in 16 bit colour mode.
Use d3d9 in place of the usual ddraw.
Use the mouse scroll wheel in the inventory, barter, conversation and save/load menus.
Assign a use to the middle mouse button, and adjust mouse sensitivity beyond fallouts normal range.
Adjust or remove the 13 year time limit.
Fixes the broken pathfinder and sharpshooter perks.
Adds some additional script functions for modders to use.
Sfall can be found here.

can you download it without having to remove your saved games?

It should not interfere with save games as it does not change game data files or the exe.

Maybe it's because I'm running the unofficial 1.2.25 or whatever patch, but I automatically lose about 1 day after my last save, because of Arroyo dying. I know "What is happening to Arroyo is part of the story," but it's also killing me. And actually, I'm pretty sure this happened to me a decade ago when I had the original game. Either way, I really want a mod to disable that time limit.

Additionally, what happens to you when you don't get the GECK in time? The village dies and you don't lose? Somehow, I doubt this.

How about, you get mad and seek revenge?

Sorry, but it's the only outcome for Arroyo. No matter how fast you get the Geck the same thing
will always happen. There is no time limit. But I'm willing to bet you still won't believe it :-)

A lot of people find it hard to believe but once you get to the end of the game you'll understand
that getting the GECK was not the main goal, only a necessary step in the plot.

I can confirm that you die in Fallout 2 around 2244. Happens when fast traveling by car.
It seems to be a bug. This is not connected with Radiation, HP or anything. It is present in Restoration Project.
The message is pretty generic message -"You died. The village lost due to starvation" etc, with skeleton.

It seems that its fixable though - just wait via Pipboy a few weeks.
