I tried rename ddraw.dll but the game crashed after I hit new game or load.
High Resolution Patch works perfectly with my disc version of Fallout 1.
Spec: P4 2.4 GHz, 768 MB, GF6600 GT. Windows XP SP3

Fron Highres patch readme, it only supports:
US 1.1.
The EXE used in TeamX's English 1.2 (this executable is the same used in their fallout 1.3.4 patch) .
The EXE used in the Fallout Restoration Mod by Wasteland Ghost/TeamX.
Polish 1.2/TeamX.
Fallout Collection (PC DVD) WHITE LABEL 1.2.
Some other versions will also work but will be recognised as one of the versions listed above.
So it apparently does not support the censored UK version (= GOG version of FO1).
You may have to install the 'Fallout Patch 1.2 ENG TeamX' to get it work. At the same time you may want to download and install the 'Fallout 1 Children Patch' if you want to see children' (they are there in UK version, just invisible and can steal your stuff) and while at it, you could also get the 'Fallout Patch 1.3.4 ENG TeamX ' that fixes lots of bugs left in game. You can find them at NMA.

It doesn't work. The game still slow down.

Maybe you should contact with Mash (high resolution patch creator), in NMA.
I have no idea why you're having this problem.

Found it while browsing the NMA forums:
you have to delete the ddraw.dll file (or rename it to have it as a backup in case something goes wrong) and set the color mode to 16 bit.
