Just a couple of tips I thought I'd share for running Fallout 1 & 2 under Linux.
If you have a widescreen monitor and cannot see the bottom 1/5th of the screen:
From winecfg add ann application profile for falloutw.exe / fallout2.exe and under the graphics section for these exe's select Emulate a virtual desktop.
If your using the NMO hires patch put in the resolution the games is set to run in, else 640 x 480.
For Fallout if you are getting the Not enough free disk space error, add the application profile for falloutw.exe and select Windows 98 from the bottom of that window.
BTW. Both games run great under linux+wine for me with Ubuntu 8.04 with both the WineHQ packages and the standard wine 1.0 in Ubuntu.
I'm getting the game to run no problem with wine except when i check the emulate virtual desktop box the game window loads in a really small box. I haven't been able to get it any larger and it's a real eye strain trying to see everything. any ideas how to fix that?

Emulate virtual desktop will remove any scaling that would be applied to fullscreen mode. You can use the NMO hires patch [1] to make view area larger, ie, you will have a bigger window and be able to see more of the map at once, but it will not scale the window to appear any larger.
If it is to small to see you may be better off not using Emulate virtual desktop and just using the NMO hires patch choose the resolution that looks best to you.

There is a reported error at WineApp for Fallout 2 with the Mouse being unusable.
see this link http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=319
I was challenged to why I said Fallout ran perfect for me.
I was having the same disk space error on my computer and I'm running XP but that tip about switching the profile to Windows 98 worked for me thanks
Sadly it won't work very well with the CrossOver version for MacOS. Extremely slow and unusable mouse...
The Darwine build of 1.1.5 didn't work for me (Darwine, not Fallout) so I'm waiting for the 1.1.6 build to test it again.
I hope I'll get it to run smoothly...

I got the same results using CrossOver Games Mac. I found the mouse/movement "graphic" to be extremely slow in the main game screen. The game runs though. I wonder if adding a few command line options to it when it starts would help with this? Considering the age of the game and the speed of the Mac I tried it on, Id think it would be a bit more functional.
Follow this to install Wine 0.9.15 to fix slow mouse:

Not sure if there is a 0.9.15 for Mac but may be worth trying to find, starting here:
