I saw the news about Fallout 2 being updated in the GOG Preservation program. I looked and I currently own:
* Fallout Classic
* Fallout 2 Classic
* Fallout Tactics Classic
* Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition
* Fallout 2
* Fallout Tactics
* Fallout: London

When I look at my Fallout 2, I see offline backup files:
* Fallout 2 (Part 1 of 2) 1.02 GOG v1
* Fallout 2 (Part 2 of 2) 1.02 GOG v1

But when I go to the store page - if shows the game with the new GOG Preservation graphic and notes of recent updates 20 March 2025... It shows that I can purchase it (not in my library - like I do not own it) - yet I own Fallout 2 and Fallout 2 Classic.

Do I have to buy yet a 3rd version of these games to get the most recent updates when they come out?
Or do I have the current one, but GOG has me misconfigured for what is recognized as in my library?
I installed the offline in stallers and the sfall-readme.txt file says it is version 3.2
sfall, a fallout 2 engine tweak mod by Timeslip and many other contributers version 3.2, built for fallout 2 v1.02 US

The notes on the current store page say that GOG Preservation project updated it to 4.4.5
OK, there seems to be a product number difference.

If you go to gogdb.org and search for Fallout, you can see 3 different sets of product numbers. For Fallout 2, I see:

Fallout 2 1440166436
Fallout 2 1440151285 (offline install has goggame-1440151285.info file in it)
Fallout 2 Classic - so old that no product number - just the number 2

So the new updated version of Fallout 2 is a new game ID in GOG.
So I will have to buy it again (and own 3 different copies) to get the latest updates?

This is the same for Fallout (current is1440166342, previous is1440148836, and classic does not show a number, just 1)
and the same for Fallout Tactics (current is1440163405, previous is 1440152063, and classic is not shown - just 3)

The 2 versions 1440166436 and 1440151285 are probably related to the amazon prime games. Sometimes there are 2 version of the game when they giveaway games on prime gaming (one version is related to the giveaway) - we don't know why but it happens and thee store wont show you own the game or if you review it you won't be seen as owner - that is for the prime gaming version. But the games are exactly the same - they share everything so don't worry you have it all! (You may have the same issue with other prime gaming games like the Elder Scrolls games, FO New Vegas and others)

As for the sfall mod - the sfall-readme.txt file is old and haven't been updated. It may be the mod that comes with an old txt. The mod itself should be updated as long as you have installed 1.02 GOG v1. Not that you cannot update sfall yourself and you probably should because there is an newer version already. To confirm your version check ddraw.ini at the top you should see ";sfall configuration settings ;v4.4.5". Or just start the game from the launcher exe - the version is in the bottom right corner.

Thanks, ddraw 4.4.5. When I start up, I get fallout ii 1.02 and sfall v4.4.5 Hopefully I get automatic updates if the preservation project makes any.
