Every time I try to run Fallout 2 I get the error
"The instruction at 1004d141 referenced memory at 00000000
The memory could not be read from

Click on OK to terminate the application"

I have tried the unofficial patch, sfall and all manner of compatibility switches, settings and programs. Nothing works. If anyone could help me, it would definitely be appreciated, and would also mean I didn't waste 5.99 USD.
This might be due to Vista's security measures. Are you running the game as administrator? You can do this by checking the box that says "run as administrator" in the properties tab for the game shortcut. Also, where did you install the game? If it's in Program Files, that folder has extra security that can interfere with games. Running as administrator can get around it, but it might be easier to install somewhere else, for example C:\Games.

To change the install path, you have to hit the "options" button when you run the GOG installer. That will let you pick where you want to install the game.

I hope one of those works!
I tried running it as admin, but that didn't seem to fix anything. I will try reinstalling it to my desktop instead though. I'll post back with the result.

I'm not sure if installing to the desktop is a good idea either... although I've never tried it. I'd suggest just putting it in a folder on your C drive somewhere.
Well, apparently it was a good idea, because the game started when I tried it, thanks for the suggestion, I'd never have tried it otherwise. Seems that this is only a Fallout 2 issue for me, as I can run (and have beaten) Fallout 1 when it was installed to program files.

Again, thanks.
Cool, glad it worked.
