Enigma83: So, I bought EU1 from GOG a few days ago. I noticed that the game wouldn't start on Windows 10, unless you delete the faulty winmm.dll. But this resulted in the music not working (sound effects still work, but not music). It's taken a few days of digging, but I found a proper solution. First, install the game.

Then download this file:

The name of the file is X-WingMusicFix.zip. It's for another game but it works. Extract all files from the zip into the EU1 game folder, except XWING95.EXE. Delete the original winmm.dll file, then rename win32.dll to winmm.dll (IMPORTANT or this won't work). Launch the game, you'll see that the background music works as well as sound effects.

But I couldn't stop there. I have an NVIDIA GTX 1080, and I wanted to be able to play this game at my monitor's max resolution of 3840x2160 (4K). So after more digging, I download dgVoodoo 2 (http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2_54.zip).

Extract that zip into the game folder. Copy all the files from the MS folder into the game folder (once again, IMPORTANT). Then run dgVoodooCpl.exe as administrator. Select the button that says ".\" (to the left of the Add button). Then go to the DirectX tab. Set VRAM to max (for best game performance). Set resolution to the max your monitor is capable of (or whatever else you want). Then click apply and close the app. Now run the game, you'll see that it runs at the res you selected. You'll know it is working if you see the dgVoodoo watermark in the lower left of the screen (this can be disabled by running dgVoodooCpl.exe).

I really do wish GOG would consider incorporating both of these solutions into the official installer, and marking the game as Windows 10-compatible.

Enigma83: @tomexplodes: dgVoodoo does also have an option to not stretch the image, you can also configure it to keep the original aspect ratio. But then you might have to deal with black bars.

@Severjan: If that is what is happening, then dgVoodoo is working as it is supposed to, I think. You followed all instructions to the letter?
