Hello everyone,

I seem to be having an issue with my mouse cursor upon attempting to play this game. Once on the main menu I cannot move the cursor, it just stays in the middle of the screen. I have been googling and searching forums for the past hour but I cannot find a solution.

Any help would be appreciated, I'd love to play this game again.

Thank!
Damn dude I've got the same issue. Found a couple possible solutions but the simple ones haven't worked and I'm not computer literate enough to follow the steps of the more complicated ones. Let me know if you get it fixed!
Also having this issue, on a Windows 10 machine with a GTX 1050 TI.
I'm using a regular Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse, so it shouldn't be a mouse DPI issue either (I know modern gaming mice with DPI switches often cause problems in games from this era).

It seems like I'm actually moving a cursor around, but it isn't shown, as I managed to enter the settings menu at one point by moving the mouse around and clicking.

EDIT: I managed to get it working through these steps:
1. Go to the install folder (Galaxy has a shortcut under More > Manage Installation)
2. Right click Empires_DMW.exe and go to properties
3. Click the compatbility tab and the "Change settings for all users button" at the bottom
4. Check "Run program as administrator", "Disable full screen optimization" make sure "Disable DPI scaling set by:" is checked at set to "System (extended)" rather than the default "Program".
5. Apply and close the window and try launching the game again.

It's weird that we have to go through these steps since this is basically what GOG are supposed to do when they rerelease older titles, but I got it working through these steps.

Oh my god, I didn't expect to come back here and find the solution, thank you!

I followed these steps, but I'm still having some issues, and wondered if anyone else had any suggestions. Windows 10 machine as well. (If it makes a difference, I'm running Windows 10 through Parallels on a 2016 15" MacBook Pro. I can get some other older games to work fine.)

When I make these three changes to the compatibility settings, I can move the cursor (and it becomes much smaller, more like my standard cursor rather than the huge thing that was frozen in the center of the screen before I made these changes), but there's no response when I click on any of the menu options.

If I set the DPI override to "System" rather than "System (Enhanced)" I can click on things and proceed through the menus (e.g., click on "Single Player" and get to the next screen), but I can only see the top left corner of the screen (everything is blown up), and can't scroll past those edges. Thus, I can enter my name, but can't start a game or do anything else. If I uncheck the "Override high DPI scaling behavior box," I can click on things, but the cursor doesn't move, so I can't see what I'm clicking on.

Moreover, Windows keeps trying to update the compatibility settings every time I exit the program, resulting in a return to the frozen-cursor-in-the-center-of-the-screen state. (Looking through the compatibility settings afterwards, though, I can't figure out what settings it's changing.)

Any suggestions?

UPDATE: I'm still having issues, but I figured out that the cursor can click on things with the new settings, but it isn't aligned properly. For example, from the Single Player menu, clicking somewhere on the "Richard Lionheart" campaign button actually clicks on the box for name entry. I'm also still having issues with Windows resetting my settings after every use in an attempt to enable compatibility (resulting in the frozen/invisible cursor issue).

Your DPI setting is too high I had the same issue and finally got it figured out.

Go to control panel>display>set custom text size (DPI) and change it to 100%

Mine was set to 300% because I use a 4k 55 inch tv as a monitor.

Tried this and it solved my problem! Mine was set to 250%. Guess I just have to change it before playing this game, and then change it back afterwards. Thanks!
I've tried all of this and it still isn't working. The cursor is invisible. I can click on things but it doesn't show me. The cursor seems to be in the middle all of the time but it's actually moving as I'm moving the mouse. It's just that I can't see it.

Next problem is that I can't change the DPI setting because it's greyed out.
Yeah, so this game, Empire Earth III and some others all on GOG don't work. The mouse won't move visually but mechanically it does. The games are broken and it's being sold on here? What on earth is this? Where are the patches or fixes in general? Why are games that just do not work being sold?

ARE there actually any fixes for this? Because any solution given does not work.

SYSTEM: Windows 7 64bit
NVidea GTX 970
16GB RAM
2TB hard drive
8 Core Intel i7
Razor Mouse with native drivers, so not it's own
Razor Keyboard, same as above.

Hi I was having the same problem. Went to Microsoft . Their fix was to go into Control panel change the display from max down to 100%. Which fixed my problems with three games, Empires Dawn of the Modern World and the Panzer series. Mouse would not move during the games..

-- Im using windows 8.1, it worked fine for a few months and now I'm having this issue. Im looking through properties but cant see a disable full screen optimization button or the disable DPI scaling option. Is there something else its called in earlier versions?

I have this problem as well! I fix it by pressing command, or minimizing the game, and then re opening the game without closing it. Works every time.
I have the same Problem but none of these fixes are working cursor icon just sit there stuck on single player. I have even tried lowering my resolution but that doesn't work either.

Hey, try installing a virtual machine software (like vmware) and install windows 7 on there. Then put empires dawn of the modern world and try to play it, 100% of the times I did this it worked
