So I've been trying to get Empire Earth Gold Edition to work with Windows 10 for a bit now. I use Windows 10 x64.

Every time I start the game, it will lock up after about two minutes. It does this on the menus, on the actual matches, honestly doesn't matter where I am. I was able to switch the video settings around a bit at one point, but it still didn't help. I also tried different compatibility modes with no luck.

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck playing Empire Earth Gold Edition on Windows 10 at all, and what you guys did to fix it.

I've had similar issues with Windows 10. As soon as I am about to lay down a building, the game freezes.

I've tried the obvious fixes such as running the program as administrator and setting my Nvidia graphics card as the default graphics card.

My machine is a rather new Asus gaming laptop with Windows 10 x 64. It has an i7-4700HQ 2.40 GHz dual-core processor., 8 GB RAM and a Nvidia Geforce GTX 860 M graphics card.

Any help would be deeply appreciated as I have found memories of playing this game.

Update: This problem was fixed changing the 3D Aceleration from Direct 3D to Direct 3D Hardware TnL. Hope this help others.

I also have this problem. After a few moments in the menus the game locks up. I've tried various tweaks with the setting to no avail.

The game ran fine on my pc before i got Windows 10, so I'm assuming its a compatibility issue.

I am running Windows 10, Fx-6300 OC 4.0 GHz, GTX-970.

After 8 LONG days of cursing up a storm, pulling my hair out, and plain getting aggravated I finally have a solution!

For those having the freeze issue, DON'T USE NEOEE!

If you did, uninstall EE and AOC.

Reinstall clean without NEOEE.

go and get the 3d analyzer here. (Copy/Paste links, GOG wont let me post them)

3dfxzone.it/dir/tools/3d_analyze/download/ (find Size: 874KB Status: Not Archived and click the "save" icon).

Install it, run it as admin AND win 7 compatibility.

Select EE-AOC.exe or EE.exe and click on the little white box that is next to force max. Pixel shader version 1.1.

Save this setup as a batch file.

Run the exe in 3d Analyzer, and it works perfectly fine.

For reuse, run the batch file you saved. Otherwise, the exe will freeze.

Im running the game without V-sync. Also don't change the primary driver option. It will CTD.

The game will automatically choose it after you start it the second time.

If this didn't work,

I'm having the same issue on Windows 10.
I've tried changing the 3D analyzer setting in game.
I've tried running in administrative mode.
I've tried adjusting the resolution (both in game and even my display settings)..
I have a Nvidia graphics card, I've ensured that the graphic card settings have the application settings as default (to ensure my graphics card wasn't overriding any of the in-game settings I was playing around with).
I've ensure that the DSR factors on the graphics driver are set to 'off'' to avoid any supersampling issues

No matter what, the game freezes within 1-2 minutes of loading - so I'll load a map, start building, and it freezes. Music continues during the freeze, so I'm thinking it's related the graphics.

I have Windows 10 Home, 64 Bit with a Nvidia GeForce GT 640 graphics card. Driver version 353.62.

I just downloaded the game yesterday and haven't used Gog before (I'm usually a Steam user for newer games, and until recently somehow managed to keep all my old game discs in great condition) so I'm not too sure if there's already been a solution identified? I'd prefer to avoid installing without the NEOEE if possible as my understanding is that without it you can't play multi-player? Although with the freezing issue I haven't attempted to try the multi-player mode yet, but a few of my friends like to play together online and I'm not too sure if the only solution posted so far would allow that?
After trying all the compatibility modes as well, as a quick update for some reason the Windows Vista compatibility mode allows a much longer play time before freezing. However, I'm still encountering freezing issues (especially if I try to save, open a menu in game, etc).
nate31891, YOU ARE F.... GENIUS!!! After reading and trying for hours, your way worked like a charm. THANKS!!!

Just one thing, after installing the 3d analyzer, you need to go to properties and put the Always run, as administrator tick to able to use the batch file every time. Than, even you can make a shortcut and asign the icon of the game - and voila. My wife even didn't noticed that there is some kind of magic behind.

I tried this but it cant force the dll. i did everything that you said above
This is frustrating. I was happy to find the game here at GOG but it just keeps freezing on me using Windows 10. I assume there is still no fix for this?
Here's how I fixed it:

Right click on the game icon on your desktop,

Click on properties,

Click compatibility (one of the tabs),

Click "Run compatibility troubleshooter",

Then it should tell you the version of Windows it's compatible with,

Mine's set at "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2),

Set "Compatibility mode" for this,

Click on the check box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:",

Click "Test the program.." in the troubleshooter,

If it works be sure to apply the changed settings and click "OK",

Do this for both the original and expansion

It took me a while to find out a solution which works for me after trying to run the game in any possible compatability mode - none worked. I found the problem to be within EE itself: the wrong graphic driver was installed under Windows 10. Try this:

- start the game
- in the main menu go straight to the game settings
- check what graphic driver is set default; in my case it was something funny like 'primary graphic driver' but not the Intel graphic card which is installed in my notebook (it was only shown as option in a drop down menu)
- switch to the graphic card you've got in your computer and then close the setting with a click on OK.

In my case this was all it needed and the game runs well ever since.
Maybe changing other parameters in the settings like '3D enhancer' (if you can change this) might also help, just try.

Hope it can be as easy for you to fix this as it finally was for me.
HELLO GUYS!

I fking finally figured out how to fix this shit. Sorry about my english i know its not that good, but i hope you understand

First of all, run EE.exe and go straigh down to settings. There is graphic card, i had (dont rembember the name) but some unknown. Put that to nVidia GeForce or whatever you have.

Second, righ side there is the resolution. For me it was 800x600 32PIT! THERE IS THE PROBLEM WHY THIS GAME IS NOT WORKING! For windows 10 this game was updated to 64PIT so it has to be 64BIT! Put that what ever resolution but sure 64PIT!!! and then press apply/okay. Then its working

By the way. I had the problem aswell, if i laughed the EE.exe then it freezed (not responding) immidetly, so i tryed as fast as possible tons of times, and atleast it succeeded.

I hope it helps you, for me it worked and i can play! :)
I tried all your solutions and at first, none worked.
In the end, a combination of them finally worked for me:

(1) Install 3Danalyzer as described by nate31891 (on 20.08.2015)
Dont forget to run the Batch as Administrator (!) (That solves the Problem of warlok484)
(2) Using this, go Ingame, select Game Options and:
+ Select the right graphic card (instead of "primary graphic driver" or something like that) (like berger.an suggested)
+ set 3D Aceleration from Direct 3D to Direct 3D Hardware TnL (like AlfalfaMale75 suggested)
+ set your resolution (like joelmarkelov suggested)
here i used 32Bit although my system runs 64Bit, which worked (there was no option for 64Bit in my version of the Game) . Just dont use 16Bit

With these settings the Game works just fine :)

Yeah I think there is some misconception there in the earlier message.

In the graphics settings, the "bitness" refers to bpp, ie. bits-per-pixel. This can be e.g. 16bpp, or 32bpp. This means how many colors are used. I don't think there is such graphics option at least in PC games as "64 bits" or "64 bpp".

The "bitness" of your Windows version (e.g. either 32bit or nowadays usually 64bit Windows) has nothing to do with the amount of colors, ie. "bits per pixel". So these two are two separate things.

Hey Guys,

I just recently downloaded the Empire Earth old from GOG cant beat it for $5 knowing that I could run into the same issues that you all are having. So with that in mind I tried compatibility mode since I upgraded to Win 10 on my Vaio, and kept on freezing the game. Tried VIsta, XP and 7 compatibility modes nothing would work. So I reinstalled the game and said what the hell and tried running in in Windows 10 mode and ran as administrator, and holy crap it WORKED!!!! I only change the graphics card setting to ATI Radeon DNL and disabled V sync. After I got it to work i didnt mess with any other settings. Now my computer is an E-series Vaio with AMD Dual core and ATI 256 mb radeon graphics card running windows 10. I bought this computer from walmart 6 years ago. Anyways I hope this works for you guys thought I might share this information.
