Yeaa....NO.
It WAS.
I played it for a while last year. But the last two days it froze.
- It right after the game started.
- After trying to fix, it froze right after i wanted to build something. (The first Greek Mission)

IDK whats up with it ? Apparently it has that issue for a long time, but worked gread- till now.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Go in your GOG Directory and Start EE not via the GOG Launcher/The GOG-version-Exe, but start the original Exe. Without any compatibility. It should work fine.
It worked for me now. (Just have to see for how long)
I made a quick little test of this and it seem to work with the base addtion of EE1. I did not do a thoughow test however. So I do not know if it long term viable. Ther seemed to be a slight graphical glich in my copy in the menu.

I have not gotten the expantion to work however. At least it crashes as soon as I go in to the setting in the menu. It is not a issue with the patch the base game comes with? Maybe I should just look for my old CDs and try to use them. Anyway it would be nice if there was a quick, out of the box solution that works on Win 10. Classic game after all.

Firstly, I'm sorry for my english, I use GoogleTranslator.
Regarding your question, yes, it is compatible with Windows 10.
The solution is to uncheck the "Compatibility Mode" box in Properties of the .EXE file and run the game in Administrator mode.
Then, in game, in "Video Settings" choose "Primary screen driver" and "Direct3D Hardware TnL".
"The solution is to uncheck the "Compatibility Mode" box in Properties of the .EXE file and run the game in Administrator mode. Then, in game, in "Video Settings" choose "Primary screen driver" and "Direct3D Hardware TnL"."

This no longer works, if it ever worked.

I have found and tested a solution that works as of September 2020:

STEPS:

1. Run in compatibility mode and choose Windows 7

2. In settings choose the following options:

- Video Card: Primary Display Driver
- 3D acceleration: Direct3d Hardware TnL

3. Choose 1920 x 1080 32bit for the screen resolution. 2560 x 1080 seems to make it crash when u load a game up.

4. Turn off vertical sync

5. Close the game and save the launch settings for the game.

I've tried every method listed in this thread and tried every combination of each method I could. I don't get as far as the settings menu in-game to do a lot of the steps. I get the logo/banner followed by a blank screen then I'm right back on the file folder of the .exe

this very machine has run it in the past if only I could remember how...

me pasa lo mismo, encontraste alguna solución?
My bought game here on GOG doesn't launch. I was sad cause I loved this game.
Then I found my old CD, I was so happy! I installed the game and when I tried to run it, it crashed as well. So I guess it must be a problem with WIN 10.
Even tried running it as Admin, all possible compatibility modes but it didn't help at all.
I found my problem with the game . I'm on win 10 latest version all updated. With a few of these old games I have to turn off rivatuner and MSI afterburner and then it launches with no other treatment. It's just rivatuner I think though. I had the same problem with Sacred 2. Just a heads up to people what worked for me.

I tested it is just rivatuner.

This era in games was a really good time. They made some good games. The models all look the same from then. But they knew how to do game play.
