barblebapkins: I bought this game expectign it to work and it worked perfectly the first time I ran it although after I restarted my pc It has no longer launched. I have installed the widescreen mod.
Things I've tried:
Hard install
Uninstalling all mods and reinstalling
reinstalling in an entirely new folder
running as administrator
Does anyone know a fix for this?
Error full message:
Microsoft visual C + + Runtime library
Programe:D:\GOG\Emperor-Rise o f the middle kingdom\Emperor.exe
Abnormal program termination.
I realised It's not under question, my apologies.
did you try verifying / repairing the game? :D if my info doesnt work plz refer to wak's suggestions
plan b is try it on a different pc you own. copy the game's files over from the first pc to test it on the 2nd pc. delete after testing. installing it on a 2nd pc brand new and overriding the files on the first pc might work also. remember to delete files from 2nd pc. im not promoting pirating, this is strictly for debugging.
thing about old games is they tend to f up when anything happens. such as modding them, windows updates, simply existing. its kinda hard for the normal users to figure out what broke, we just kinda fumble our way through it and sometimes work it out :D
extreme fix: this is a complete purge of files.
you might have to go into C:\Users\ USER NAME \AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications and delete the folders. i just got some weird issue with another one of their games bugging out on me and had to fix it like this. couldnt figure out which folder full of numbers was for that game so just uninstalled everything and deleted all of them. worked fine after reinstalling it again. cant promise it will work on all issues. but its worked when ever i had issues launching a game from this company.
it helps i dont keep many games installed at once and emperor + the other games are kinda tiny.
hopeful fix: sometimes it just works, i dont understand it.
alternatively, it could just randomly start working again if left alone for a while(months). that also happens sometimes to me when i cant be bothered to debug what broke.
