Am I supposed to move them somewhere? Is it ok to leave them where they are produced?

Most people play with the ability to build using resources from anywhere. However, for a harder game, you can choose (during game setup) to have resources only used on the planet where they are located. This forces you to ferry key resources from planet to planet, and makes for a tougher game.
