Because it feels like post apocalyptic Risen.

Piranha Bytes is a one trick pony. It is a pretty good trick, but I don't need to play Gothic, but in in a dystopian post apocalypse.
It's a post apocalyptical Risen.
;D It's a post-apo. Gothic, really: I played Risen for about 90min, and thought, oh, it's just another Gothic.

(I played the Gothic titles for long hours, but didn't finish any of them -- too much out-of-character XP hunting to my liking.)

EDIT: Yes, and Elex felt just the same to me. (Getting bored by Cyberpunk77, I just re-installed it after years; I really want to give it another chance.)

Let us know how it goes. I'm considering reinstalling, myself. I never did complete it, though I came close on PS4.
well I'm a fan, so.
played gothic 1 like 4 times (till finish)
gothic 2(3 times till finish)
gothic 3 (also 3 till finish)
gothic 4 (ugh don't play)

risen-finished all once. didn't enjoy like gothic.

elex-finished 2 times. had a blast each time.

all of them took ages to finish. but to me, its just perfect immersion. you just sink into the world and don't want to leave.
unlike other games.

but hey. I'm a fan.
ELEX is very different from both Gothic and Risen... its far more refined and the quests/story is better integrated into the world. the attention to detail was stunning when i first ran though it. Even on my 3rd run coming up on 350 hours im still finding new things.

There really isn't much you can compare ELEX to, its sort of like the society of madmax mixed with a fervent techno-cult both hated the magical tree huggers who are secretly absolute balls out psychotic with some insane winter soldiers being controlled by a sociopath hell bent on killing everyone.

It's one of my favorite games from PB, and I am stoked for ELEX2 to drop Tuesday!

I haven't really played Risen, mainly just looked at it, and it looked a lot like that cartoony ridiculously DRM'd had to find a less ethical means despite purchasing it anyway game, what's it called ... right, Borderlands. Risen looked like a more professionally done Borderlands to me.

NOPE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Don't listen to me. Risen is NOT the game I'm thinking of. I'm thinking of that Bethesda title.

Elex is better than Risen, but they both got their appeal. I enjoyed the storyline more in Elex. I also enjoyed the general feel of it. I generally prefer swords and shields open world 1st person. I can tolerate behind the character 3rd person, which is what Pirahnabytes always loves to force us into. I liked the 3 Gothic games, but I liked the similar Elder Scrolls more. And between Risen and Elex, I did enjoy Elex more. But I also had vane hope throughout the game that there would be options to make my character turn around, seeing the error of his ways. But unfortunately Pirahnabytes likes to mostly make you role play the character as they imagined him rather than how you imagine him. But their titles are still fun enough to mostly overlook that.
