I'm on the fence, I love ewj but a lot of the reviews talk about 1.missing levels 2. terrible hit detection etc in the gog version in-particular. How do you guys feel about it? I'd love to support gog and buy it here but only if it's a good version of the series.

The reviews are accurate. You do get pretty nice CD-quality OST's with the GOG version, but the DOS versions of EWJ1 and 2 are the weakest next to the handheld ports. The controls are seriously botched, some secrets are rendered inaccessible, and you can fall through level geometry to your death in some spots. You'd honestly be better off getting the Genesis version on the Virtual Console or something.

The definitive version of EWJ1 is Special Edition, which is available as a hard-to-find and impossible-to-run PC Win95 version and a harder-to-find but still-functional Sega CD version. EWJ2 is pretty much the same across most versions so take your pick, except the DOS port is missing a level.

So yeah basically the only good reason to grab the GOG release is for the soundtrack.
