MotBW is going to be released soon, will it be much different than Genesis (like HoMM 4 vs 3, or Etherlords 2 vs 1)? Or will it have similar game mechanics with updated graphics (like HoMM 3 vs 2, or Disciples 2 vs 1)?
If they're going to be pretty much the same regarding game mechanics I'd wait for the sequel, if they're going to be pretty much different I'd now buy Genesis at this weekend's promo.

Well this one like many GOG releases doesn't like HD setups, things will appear off screen either stretched too vertically or horizontally, windowed mode doesn't work even when changing the shortcut's target or using the GOG's "windowed" shortcut and dabbling with your video card modes and resolution do not work either.
Wealin aren't you answering in the wrong thread?
This game is a masterpiece, MOTBW will have a hard time to match Genesis in all aspects. I'm looking forward MOTBW mainly for multiplayer. You should get it even only to make practice and prepare for MOTBW MP. If you only care for SP, I'd stick with Genesis.

I would say that these would differ like heroes 5 and 3. (I completed human campaign in heroes 5 and returned to third)

Information:
It will have same game mechanic with slightly bigger pool of events and sites, interesting modes for shards in campaign, campaign will be more tense, potential multiplayer. Haven't seen any new creature during first beta.

Opinion:
Don't know current state, but interface on first beta stage was weird. Lacked some crucial elements, awkward sizes for keys (like 5x5 pixels). For example, for checking all available buildings in E:G, you must click building interface and you can see all buildings. In Motbw they compressed each quarter into dropdown menu on building wheel (like in neverwinter nights). So, if you want to check all available buildings, you need to click on each quarter.

I have negative attitude to snowbird studio, they already prolonged release time for more than year, and first beta didn't looks like "almost finished" game. I doubt that they fixed all reported bugs(or this interface. this alone puts me down) before second beta and, probably will not be able to fix reported during second test at all.
Honestly, I expect that this will be same fail as disciples 3.

Buy Genesis NOW it's only 3 Bucks.

I mean even if you hate it that's still worth it to take a chance.

Plus it will be good to get the hang of things for when the other one ever comes out. And you will also understand all the conversations there will be when ppl compare them.
I also played a bit the first beta and had the same impression as Gremlion. I was very disappointed but I hope they will fix all the problems, since Eador's game designer is working on the game too. I don't put too much faith in this, though.
I've read that there is Genesis demo somewhere, I did search but haven't found one. Can someone provide a link? And is the demo english?

Genesis is a great game, it is already available, it costs almost nothing, and it can keep you entertained for months... so my suggestion is to get it now.

MotBW is a masterpiece (already in its beta stage). I am sorry to hearing some negative comments from veteran players, but I have to completely disagree with them. I have played the beta for 6 weeks, and I have only good news to report. The game has been improved in every departments and yet it maintains its charm. If you are eager to have more information and more opinions on it, please go the the Snowbird official forum. You will see that hundreds of people have only positive comments on the new game.
It's nice. Very enjoyable when you get the hang of how it should be played. Although it also is nearly unplayable on decent pc because of some outdated dll or shit (there are workarounds, all are rather crappy, neither one is working as it should for me). So there you have it: a good game but outdated and therefore difficult to enjoy for those with faster computers.

The problem with the Genesis Demo is that it is only in Russian. So unless you have a working knowledge of Russian it would just be frustrating.

The other reason I said to just buy it now is that for the next just about 2 days and 3 hours, as of this post, instead of being 6 dollars it is half price for only 3 ($2.99). When you compare this to say $10 that you will at least spend for the new one it's nothing.

Sale price expires 11pm EST March 11th. That's 4am March 12th GMT I think.
I did buy genesis just a week ago, and I am also waiting for the new game. I use it mostly for practising the game mechanics. And the price is anyway very low. So I would say - buy it!
I am not looking forward to MotBW. I got Eador Genesis because it looked awesome. I like the well-drawn 2D graphics and 3D has no appeal. A 3D game just looks like another turn based strategy game, going so far with the graphics that everything in the game is there or not. Eador Genesis leaves more room for the imagination.

Also, if its just the same game redone, why pay more for a new release? $3 is an excellent deal. I would not have counted myself cheated if I paid 10, 15 or 20 for Eador Genesis; it is that well done (surprsingly, the writing is very good even apart from the gameplay reminiscent of Planescape Torment in its intelligence).
I've risked without playing in demo (I don't know Russian language) and bought Eador : Genesis three monts ago (as far as I remember). And I don't regret, for three dolars it is almost like for free :) And it is good method to know, if you like this type of gameplay or not. Masters of the Broken World will be for sure more expensive than Genesis, especially in this promotion.

Thanks everybody for the tips so far. Does MotBW work on Windows XP, or it needs something newer? Is anything removed from MotBW (creatures, spells, etc.) in comparison to Genesis, or is it all supposed to be there too?
I'm still having a hard time deciding. I wouldn't want something that will be obsolete in a couple of months even if it's 0.01$. That's the reason I don't own HoMM 1 & 2 or Disciples 1 - newer versions of these games are pretty much the same but have it all much more appealing.
And I already have huge backlog of games and so little time to play...
