gscotti: I see you still have "PIP boy" and "Space rangers" there. Yeah, those bother me.

Boon952: Ah these... I asked about them a few months ago, and was told that they are ignored by the game engine. Did you ever receive one of them in an actual game?

You should be happy to hear that I have removed all references to these "futuristic" items in the upcoming English release (2.50b)

Regards.
Yes, I got the PIP boy - two of them, in fact. I do admit that it was a relatively old version of Horizons, though. If I recall correctly, the translation effort had just barely begun.

And yes, I'm happy they're gone.
I'll wait for 2.50b eagerly.

Question on the var files: I go there and look at the PIP Boy, and I see it has an effect that, when I mouse over, says "PIP Boy". OK, great, that was helpful. Is there a similar var file that says what the effects are? I couldn't find it.

Also, why are there duplicates of the numbers, and only some of the have the highlight-mouseover thing? Is there var-file-viewer-101 class I can take? ;-)

AFAIK effects like PIP-boy were added as replacement to descriptions.

When you mouseover over highlighted items it says what they are give, next number - how much of that stat and third number 0 wearer / 1 whole group.
So pip-boy gives to wearer 2 initiative, 2 defence, 2 ranged defence, precise strike and shot both 2 too.

Bear in mind that items 496-503 have been "removed" from the game several releases ago.
(And even the names will disappear in the next English release)

The "Effects" column from item.var points to ability_num.var and ability.txt

The description for Pip-Boy was
/263 Пип-Бой
#С этой фигуркой жизнерадостного человека ваш взгляд на мир иногда насыщается зелёным цветом, и так и хочется кому-нибудь ударить в 95~.#

Some effects are hard-coded, so they don't have a "formal" description (but they are documented elsewhere, so I will include these at some point).

Cool, thanks folks. Makes sense now.
Hey all I was talking with someone and I realized a very good analogy for the Genesis vs Masters comparison that I want to know if anyone thinks might be good.

When Steam announced that they were remaking Heroes of Might and Magic 3 in HD and pricing it for $20 bucks it sounded kind of ok. But then we find out that it's only the original H3 Restoration without the AB or SoD expansions. Keeping in mind that gog.com was still offering H3 Complete for only $10, and you could download the free unofficial HD mod.

I mean we can't really say that the original H3 RoE is a bad game, but we can say we were totally ripped off and deceived big time if we pre ordered it as they did not make the above facts known at the start.

I know people like Masters, I can understand, I just don't like the fact that they totally ignore the fact that it didn't really add anything other than redone graphics and that all their kudos should be going to Genesis and it's creator/designer and not SnowBird games.
