As the title may imply Eador Genesis crashes when I try to load my campaign save. This is the second time this has happened! The first time it happened was shortly after I tried to rename game0.bkc to game0.cmp to restart a shard because I got a bad starting location, it actually renamed it to game0.cmp(2). The first time it happened I tried to delete game0.cmp(2) to see if that would fix anything, but it didn't help, so I just started a new campaign which worked fine until now!
Edit: I have the steam version.

Hmm not entirely sure I understand what is going on, but if you want to use the backup you should not just rename it. You should first move the game0.cmp out of the folder, then make a copy of the game0.bkc file, and then rename that copy to game0.cmp

Well that's good to know even if it doesn't really solve my main problem, but thanks anyway.
To reverse things you could rename the game0.cmp(2) back to game0.bkc
Do you have any mods?
Archive your save folder and upload somewhere, we should check if this is repeatable issue.

This would break things even more. - he have new campaign, (2) is a rudiment of old one.
He should purge this away.

Sorry I'm not really sure what you mean. I assume that you mean just like zip up the save folder and post a dropbox link or something (Would dropbox work? I'm not really familiar with any other file hosting website...).

Exactly this. I would dl, check your save on my system, if it would load, I will play 2-3 turns and return your save back. If not, then I would contact Adrageron with it.

I would be at home in 7-8 hours, though.

OK this link should work then, https://www.dropbox.com/s/09cspd6skkqe8rx/save.zip
Crashes for me, too.

But if you delete game0.cmp, then make a copy of game0.bkc, then rename that copy to game0.cmp it loads the game on some shard at turn 25 with a scout.

I tried to recreate the issue by renaming the .bkc to cmp(2), but it still loads fine, so not sure what happened here.

This worked, thankfully, but as you said this it is rather strange. Keep in mind that it didn't just stop working right away, but a maybe about a day or two later it just started to crash whenever I tried to load up the campaign save. Starting a new campaign fixed the issue temporarily, it came back after not too long (the reason I started this thread). Hopefully it won't come back!

Oh ok, so messing with the files wasn't the problem,I did not get this before. That means that either the game or the system somehow corrupted the save file at some point after the backup. Warrants further investigation, but I don't know how.
Hate to bother you guys again, but it happened again. this time I'm not really sure what happen but it could because my laptop overheated and shut down (well it didn't really overheat but the BIOS shut it down before it could overheat) and then the saves wouldn't load. Come to thing of it my laptop does this a lot so it's possible that this was the problem all along. I would really appreciate it if anyone could find a way to get the files to load again like jamotide did last time.

Here is the save file download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4613i8xcap88ym6/save%202.zip
Well, if the game crashes because of hardware malfunction during save process, no wonder that it corrupts save game.
I can only recommend for you every ~5 turns exit to main menu, put game0.cmp to archive, then continue. So you would lose less time next time.
In this case I can't load even backup save. You can use backup save from previous save folder, though.

Keeping multiple backups is excellent advice, but there are utilities that will do this for you automatically - saving you from having to stop the game regularly. See here for some suggestions.

The .bkc seems to be corrupted this time as well. But renaming the game0.bka to game0.cmp brings you back to the astral on turn 5. (delete the old game0.cmp before doing this, so it wont rename to game0.cmp(2) )
Basically just do the same as last time, but use the .bka file instead of the .bkc

I would try doing some system maintenance like checking the harddrive for errors, defragging (dont do this on a SSD), things like that. Or maybe something is wrong with the eador installation, reinstall could be needed after the harddrive is fixed.

You could run memtest86 to see if the ram is faulty, that could cause such file corruption.
