Hi

Hoping someone might have an idea to solve this, I've tried running the game using the windowed shortcut in the start menu, I've tried editing the config file itself, and I've added W at the end of the shortcut manually.

No matter what I do when i try to load the game in a window the screen flashes purple for a second and then goes fullscreen. Does anyone know of a way to fix this, I really want to be able to play windowed.
I run the game in windowed mode launching directly the eador.exe in the install directory (for me C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Eador - Genesis ) instead of using the launcher shortcut.

Unfortunately I still get the same problem even when I do this.
Game could be played only on 1024х768 resolution, some laptops don't have enough height.

I'm on a desktop not laptop, out of interest though I lowered my windows resolution. Still didn't solve it unfortunately.
Only way that I know is the dxwnd :
http://www.old-games.ru/utils/files/dxwnd_og.rar

Download it, add Eador's executable file, and check three options-Hook DirectDraw, Auto-Correct Mouse Position and Don't Hide Mouse Pointer. After checking Hook DirectDraw, there will be possibility to choose Resolution. There is also the option to run in full screen... But you want to launch it in window, so don't check it :)

Very important thing - don't download dxwnd from any other website - it is very important, because dxwnd from this russian abandonware website is modified version. I was trying with two another versions of dxwnd, but they are not working with Eador: Genesis.

I did all this but unfortunately it still loads fullscreen. Thank you for trying but this seems to not want to be fixed,

First of all, if you only want windowed mode to get the correct aspect ratio, you can also do that via your graphics driver (on nvidia or amd, don't know about intel): Let your graphics chip do the full screen scaling, and set that scaling to be proportional. Google "GPU scaling" for step-by-step guides.

If you really need windowed mode, you'll have to give much more info.

Note: I can run Eador windowed.
Note 2: "eador w" doesn't forced windowed mode, it's only "eador f" that forces fullscreen when the cfg says windowed.
Note 3: NtSleep (recommended to fix stuttering) does not transmit that "f", so you can switch only in the cfg.

Info you should provide to maybe get more tips:
* Hardware - CPU, Gfx Card
* OS - version, 32 or 64 bit
* Gfx driver version (and make sure you're up to date, because otherwise upgrading is the first tip)
* Behavior and output of Eador
You have described the behavior in the first post, but additionally you should
- start eador from the command line
- report any output eador puts in the cmd window
- report the content of the log file in the eador directory after a failed try to start windowed (name is blocked from posting)

yea yea mmilleder... bla bla bla Mister "Note 1-3" and "I know so much, but have no idea"

open the Eador.cfg file with editor and put this inside:

Sound (0 - off/1 - on): 1
Windowed (0 - off/1 - on): 1
Run background (0 - off/1 - on): 0
Refresh delay (default 40): 40
Poll mouse delay (default 25): 25
Keyboard delay (default 500): 500
Keyboard repeat (default 500): 500
Sound buffer (default 20000): 20000
Color depth (16/24/32, default 32): 32
Sleep time (default 50): 50
Antiblink Delay (default 0): 0
Intro (0 - off/1 - on): 1

it will work, have fun
