What bothers me, is that with GOG version you can't play with Steam users. What would make this game selles with your friends are all on Steam. Devs didn't bother to link GOG accounts with Steam users so, we would be able to play with others.

I do not have any friends currently using GOG! = (

Can anyone confirm that information before I buy it?

The devs actively made GOG release incompatible with Steam's even through LAN and later shamelessly blamed GOG for it. Don't buy it. It was a waste of my money. I now can't even play it with my girlfriend on LAN and she's got the game from GOG too.

You should be able to play LAN if you use Hamachi but I can't say for sure.

I seem to recall that we could try to establish a connection, but just as the area finished loading, the Steam or the GOG version complained that the other player on the other version didn't have a valid player name and disconnected them.

I can confirm lan works through Hamachi. Played it all last summer with a buddy. You both have to have GoG version though.

Do you mean that even playing locally didn't work without Hamachi or that you played over the internet and just didn't want to use the Galaxy client? My point was about trying to get the GOG and the Steam versions to play together and it seems that it might actually work just fine if only the names of the players could be properly exchanged between the versions.

We played over the internet but if hamachi works it should also work on an actual lan.
Think that means without using Galaxy, but I don't give a damn about co-op/multiplayer, so don't use Galaxy.

Fact is most games that use Multiplayer on Steam, take the lazy route of using Steam for the games network client, and before Galaxy was created, GOG never even got those games, due to devs being to lazy to add a network client to the actual game.

Seems totally fucked up to me, that a multiplayer game relies on the store to even work, but I don't really care.
As someone that only plays the single player games/modes, I'm glad Galaxy brings such games to GOG, even though I don't use it.
Crossplay now is here :)

I'm not sure, but before the patch there was no one to play with, and after the patch it became full of people.

it does, I got a friend that picked it up on steam during the sale. to find each other we both had to login to epic in game and be friends on epic.

So, one bought the game on Steam, the other on GOG, and both had to play MP using an Epic Games account?

Well, it's better than nothing I guess.
In my case, I'm not using any account, not even the Techland one, the players I see are mostly not from GOG anyway.
