I've been keeping a lookout on this game for some time to see if a Linux version would become available on GOG, as there is a Linux version available on Steam.

No such luck eh?

im waitiing for linux version about two years.
I'm confused as to why the Linux version is on steam but not gog. I would love for a dev to clear my confusion up.
Same here, I would like to buy it on GOG but where is the Linux version???
I've just opened a support ticket about this. I will keep you informed...

EDIT : Here's the reply I got from support :

Hello

We are not able to offer the Linux version of the game because of the technical limitations connected with the multiplayer functionality.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm seriously wondering what can block multiplayer here, especially considering it works on Windows. A Galaxy requirement maybe ? Usually, when there's a multiplayer-related problem, more often than not it's because of some distributor policy enforcing a game client and/or some other form of tracking.

Ah the good old times, when it was possible to play with friends without having to report to someone else.

Anyway, while happier with it, I suppose many of us would still be happy without multiplayer...

+1 for the both statements
If the alternative is no Linux version because of a lack of Galaxy on Linux, maybe they should add the Linux version with only LAN multiplayer.
Only with LAN you mean, like back in the days of the Good Old Games? If there would be a vendor for such things, that would be amazing ^^
No linux version, no money. I'll move on to developers who are multi-platform.
Please do understand that while the Steam version claims to have a Native Linux version, it *DOES NOT WORK*.

I installed it and had to give up and tell it to install the Windows version so I could play the game via Proton.

I very much doubt GoG will ever have a Linux version. And the version Steam has is a broken garbage fire.
The Linux version works. It has been suffering from a problem that affects the Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide definitive editions as well, since some version of the Nvidia driver, but there’s a perfectly effective workaround.

Workaround : As per the documentation in chapter 11 of the Nvidia driver docs (on Ubuntu 22.10 with driver version 515, check this file : /usr/share/doc/nvidia-driver-515/html/openglenvvariables.html), you have to set the __GL_IGNORE_GLSL_EXT_REQS environment variable to 1, so that the GLSL extension checks errors are ignored.

On the Steam client, you have to set the launch options to :

__GL_IGNORE_GLSL_EXT_REQS=1 %command%

To be honest I didn’t try for Dying Light yet, but I’ve read that Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dying Light have the same problem, and it works on Dead Island, I can confirm that.

So yes, it works on Linux. Imo, Techland should have given us a Linux version no matter what, and a Galaxy-enabled one later, for the Galaxy diehards.

For the impatient (like me, though at that point, I’m not sure “impatient” is the word), there’s currently a big sale on Dying Light and other Techland games on Steam.
