Hey all -

I just found this game 'coz of the recent sale, installed it, got almost IMMEDIATELY to the "tear my hair out" stage, googled around and discovered there's an "Unofficial Fan Patch" by a guy named Decavoid, over on the Steam Duskers forum.

HEY WOW COOL I thought, and installed it (just replacing a DLL and adding a new one) but it won't run.

So I'm curious about it now - is this patch wrapped into the latest GOG version? And there seems to be a "Daily Challenge," which I'm not seeing.

Fundamentally different version of the game, it seems...

Anyway, does anyone have more info about it?

Thanks,
R

Yeesh.
Hey @rrussell,

I checked the post on Steam regarding the Unofficial Patch and while at least three people asked for a patch made for the GOG version, Decavoid, the creator has since remained silent. They however need to create the patch individually since the DLL contains code for challenges and leaderboards i.e. Steam-specific features, which aren't present in the GOG version. This is why the patch doesn't work.

I took the DLL and decompiled it to see if I can get it to work but it wasn't exactly clean and Visual Studio isn't really my forté either. Which left me with the question if it's even worth it. While the game sure has a few bugs, they are highly circumstancial and some even just limited to challenges in general. I played around 80 hours and didn't really suffer from anything game breaking - can't even recall having lost an item/upgrade/drone once.

I'll try to reach Decavoid again, but if that turns out to be fruitless, I'd say just go on ahead and play the game. :)

Hey, thanks! I admit I ran out of steam (hurr) after posting those questions and stopped following up.

I reckon I'll keep playing, as advised ;) If you don't hear back from Decavoid, don't worry overly...
Yeah, this was on my wish list, it looks neat.

Or it was, until I noticed that a large fan patch was a thing, and I read noise about developers not supporting the game anymore. So... I probably won't support that, in turn.
A bit late to the party but, the fan patch is only required to fix a game breaking bug that makes inventory disappear or corrupt whenever you play challenges and then get back to your "campaign" savegame again. Changing between these two modes is what causes the bug. Without that patch, Steam players would need to reset the game every time ("Playing a challenge? Cool, now start a new game because you did.").

But we don't even have the Challenge mode on GoG version, thus, the bug cannot happen by design.

tl;dr: Patch on GoG version not required!

The patch is not needed, because we don't have what's causing the serious bugs to happen in the first place.

The only way you can experience these bugs is by playing the Tutorial, and then loading a savegame. If you play the tutorial once, and only ever play the game afterwards, you won't run into bugs. I've never ran into any of these.

Losing upgrades happens because your stuff is different in challenges & tutorial. Playing that and playing a savegame after overwrites your stuff with variables from the challenge / tutorial.
