I just finished the GOG version of the Stone Prophet and found out that the three animations containing the battle between Anhktepot and the Hierophant do not play, once the player lures Anhktepot to the Hierophant. The screen just shakes like he's supposed to, but no video sequence appears. Once you use the scroll of return you're supposed to get an animation where a portal opens, a boy from the village approaches the party and you teleport back to Elturel. But you only get a black screen and no more response from the game.

I then tried running the game in an individual DOSBox installation, patched to 1.10 and running from my cd. There I do get the battle scenes between Anhktepot and the Hierophant, but during the end sequence, when the boy approaches the party, the game freezes. Hitting space brings me back to the prompt of DOSBox.

I then tried running the game in unpatched version 1.0 in an individual DOSBox installation and there everything worked fine. I got all the animations, the end credits and was brought back to the game's intro screen.

Could it be that the patch 1.10 messes up the end of the game? Does that affect the GOG version of the game as well? Has anyone had similiar experiences?

Long ago, I had one of the CD distributions of this game. On the CD it did indeed have a readme which mentioned that the ending cinematic would hang with the installed version, along with a workaround to downgrade the version allowing the ending to play correctly.

I think it was 1.10 and 1.00 but can't remember exactly.
Interesting. I have one big box release from 1995 and the AD&D Masterpiece Collection. Both are version 1.00, that I had to manually patch to version 1.10.

I think I had the AD&D Masterpiece Collection too, along with another similar collection. It must have been the other one which had the base 1.10 version with the downgrade instructions.

I think savegames work fine between the two versions too, so having a separate 1.00 installation and copying savegames across is fine too.

For anyone else who might have missed out on the cut scenes and wants to see them, here are some links:

Yes, that works. It's what I did, too.
I get the same crash at end video, missing fight scene, but I also am missing the giant pulling the chain movie. Is there any fix for these problems other than using 1.00?
