Just wondereing if the saves for the gog versions are in the same place ..in the documents folders..as for the originals.
I ask because I checked and the save folders are there but contain the saves from my previous versions.

Yes I believe they're the same location.

Just remember that it'll be in the Dungeon Siege folder not Dungeon Siege LOA.
