I bought these on steam a long time ago but the first one always ran horribly no matter how much I tweaked it. Is this fixed on this version?

DSI runs with a externally configurable dx wrapper that should make the game compatible with new OSes and make it even look better. In the Steam version you have the game "as is" and needs some tweaking to run it.

(I need to get rid of the wrapper and run it with the help of command lines and so because of the natue of my computer but that is a different tale, for any user with decent computers and windows 10 the game will run much better and stable with that wrapper. That is the idea.)

The DSII apparently does not use any wrapper or configurator but my experience is that it runs better than the steam version, high framerate and the graphics seems to be more crispy. Maybe the reason is that one shader option in the game finally works as intended. But no sure. The fact is that the game runs very fluid and pretty for me.

Other of the reasons of the subpar performance in the DSII Steam version was that a lot of people wanted to run it with the expansion, and in modern rigs apparently the new render changes made in the new exe were not very friendly with modern cards or windows 10.

So. Resuming. My pesonal experience is that the GOG collection run better than the Steam version.
Thanks for the answer!

If you don't mind me asking, what is the DX Wrapper being used here on DS1 with GOG Version?
Is it DGVoodoo? NGlide? Something else?

It is a wrapper that consists in a ddraw.dll, like dgvoodoo or ddrawcompat etc... plus a dxconfig.exe configurator. Not sure if it is based in dgvoodoo or in the later, but obviously it is similar.
It has been used in other GOG titles that have been updated in the last times. Titles like Combat Mission trilogy, Might and Magic 9, Warlords 3... and some others. It works pretty well and solves compatibility, but probably makes the requirements a bit higher to run them smooth. The configuration options menu is similar to the options in nglide, as an example.

Thanks for the fast reply! Very much appreciated.

For my PC's that I could/would run DS1+2 GOG versions on:

Custom Built Desktop - i7 950; 16 GB RAM; GTX 970; W7 x64.

Acer Nitro Laptop - i7 4720HQ; 16 GB RAM; 4GB GTX 960m; W10 x64.

EVGA SC15 laptop - i7 7700 HQ; 16 GB RAM; 6GB GTX 1060 (laptop version); W10 x64.

Side notes - I already have DS1: LoA Edition & DS2 with Broken World from retail on discs (old copies); DS1+2+3 on Steam.

Sincerely I would not be worried about any problems with that computers. As an example I am running the first and the second Dungeon Siege under an AMD APU e-450 1.65Ghz, 8 Gb RAM and an integrated memory shared card ATI HD 6480M. :) And Both Games run around 40 frames, and believe me: 40 frames in theses games feels very smooth.

That's interesting w/ your computer.

Hmmmmm.

I actually have some W10 tablets (which I can connect say a mouse/keyboards/etc) via micro-USB to USB 3.0 hub.

I wonder how DS1+2 would work on this tablet:
NuVision W10 tablet with 2GB RAM; Intel Atom CPU; 32GB SSD; additional 64GB card in the micro-SDHC slot; W10 x64.

My opinion is that DSII could run in any computer that meets the original requirements and DSI the original requirements and probably a dx11 compatible card due to the wrapper, if it is based in dgvoodoo at some sort.
