As the title says the game crashes the exact moment I start a mission. Their is no specific eror message. Just the ususal "DKII.exe stopped working". I altered the registry keys Screen Height and Screen Width to get the game run in 16:9. The Main menu is still in 4:3 but I heard that in a mission the game uses the correct resolution. but it just crashes. Another thing I noticed is that the regitry key's bas is getting set back to hexadecimal instead of Decimal and also the numbers get altered sometimes and sometimes not (from 1920 to 780 for example). I am pretty sure that happens because of the calculation from Deximal to Hex. Because when I change it back to Decimal the numbers are correct again. Any way to prevent it from changing back to hex? Maybe that is the problem?

You can raise the resolution by editing registry keys:
- Run regedit (press Windows-Key+R to open the run dialog and type in regedit)
- Find "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video"
- Change "Screen Height" the decimal value of the key to your screen height (e.g 800)
- Change "Screen Width" to your screen height (e.g. 1280)

Don't use another account (e.g. Administrator) to run the game, as the registry keys won't apply then.
Don't run the game in compatibility mode for the same reason and only start it with DKII.exe in the game's installation folder. Using GOG's Desktop shortcut will ignore the registry settings as well.

Further you can try switching hardware graphics acceleration to software mode like described here:
http://www.gog.com/forum/dungeon_keeper_series/dk2_wont_start_i_only_see_the_bullfrog_logo_screen/post3

..and just to be sure all older components are present on your system, re-install DirectX 9 with the redistributable pack:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
Unpack the content into a separate folder and run dxsetup.exe to start the installation.
That is exactly how I made it before already. But I figured it out by now I think. Atleast it is working. Thanks for you you help anyway :)
My solution was switching the base to decimal. Then entering the resolution. THEN SWITCHING BACK TO HEX! And than clikc on ok. This made it work for some reason.
Thanks much for the partial help, DeMignon!

After fighting with Horny for +4 hours, I finally managed to make the game playable in 1024x768 windowed mode... For some reason the game crashes even earlier if it's any higher. Here's what I did:

1. GoG version 1.7
2. Registry changes:
→ Engine ID 4
→ Screen Hardware3D 0
→ Screen Height 768
→ Screen Width 1024
→ Screen Windowed 1
3. Shortcut of DKII.exe (DKII-DX.exe & DKII_SOFT.exe didn't work):
→ Target -32biteverything -32bittextures -nointmouse
→ Compatibility Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
However, there's still one problem; my mouse cursor is visible... Any way to get rid of it inside the game window?

*EDIT* Now I've only random crashes to deal with *sigh*
