As subject, after the logo the screen goes black and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get back to Windows. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Any ideas?

*update* I just tried skipping the logo by clicking the mouse and suddenly the game loads in to the intro/menu. If I let the logo finish and don't touch anything the process freezes and I have to do the step in my original post.

I get the same problem even if I click away the Bullfrog logo animation.
Windows 7 64
Now I'm getting graphical corruption when I start the campaign. I can see the hand icon but the screen is black. If I move the hand icon around the screen I can reveal parts of the UI. I can hear the narrator though :/

1-Open the registry editor, go into HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Bullfrog Productions Ltd -> Dungeon Keeper II -> Configuration->Video

2-Find "Engine Id" and change it's value to 4

3-Find "Screen Hardware3D and set it to 0

4-In game, I experienced crashes to desktop using the 1024x768 resolution. Changing it to 800x600 seems to have fixed it. Something to keep in mind.

Try that out and tell me if it works. Also, is your GPU an ATI?

KingOfDust many thanks. That's enabled me to actually play this game :) I've only played for a couple of minutes but it seems ok. I have an ATI btw.

It's also worth noting that to change the resolution in the registry editor, "Screen Height" should have a value of "258" to produce 600 and "Screen Width" should have a value of "320" to produce 800. (This is on my computer so check the resulting number before applying).

That's because you were changing the value in hexadecimal. When changing numeric registry values, you can choose whether you want to enter the value in hexadecimal or decimal. 800x600 are the decimal values, which converted in hexadecimal gives 320x258.

Glad I could help, DK2's one of my favorite games and the more people get to play it, the better.

1st: What did you try to get it to work so far? Don't want to repeat stuff you've already tried.

2nd: Listing your GPU model and the driver version you're using might help too. I've had some strange DK2 experiences with some drivers.
i tried with lowing the resolution to 800x600 and try to disable the hardware accelerator but my driver doesnt alow it, and downloaded the gog dungeon keeper safe mode patch but still doesnt start the game , and also with following your solution and still the same story :(
Is the exe set in Win2k compatibility mode? Also, it might be a driver issue,so updating/rolling back your drivers might make a difference. If you have an Nvidia, you could try the 260.89 drivers (that's what I'm using, though I'm running on WinXP). For ATI, I know my brother manages to run it on the 11.6 catalyst drivers on Win7 64 bits.
well i have AMD radeon HD 6250, not sure is there is a recent update for this one will see....
Does this leave the menu real flickery? It seems to just be the main menu for me. At least the game is ok
im running Windows XP and after downloading the latest patch in the download menu and its just black. no bullfrog logo and i have to ctrl alt delete to get out.
