The Default Controls SUCK

Here is my question. I have Win7 32, I already knew to go in and setup the controls the way that has been shown. The reason i'm posting is because when I saved the settings they don't transfer over to the game, the game still has the old controls not the new ones I supposedly saved them as. Then when I go to setup and say "save and launch Duke3d" it doesn't launch at all.

How can I fix this or make sure the settings I choose get saved to the game, they're still there when I go back to check so not sure why the game controls aren't saved like that as well.

Edit: Ok, for me I had to actually go into the DUKE3D.CFG file and change and save it there. I would suggest others trying this as well. I can give more details if asked.

My first guess is that you have installed into the default Program Files folder which is protected in Win7. You need to either run the setup (and game) as administrator (regardless of whether your user account has administrator rights) or you need to install outside of Program Files, such as C:\Games\

The new installer does add any such "Setup" entry in the start menu.

There is a "Settings" entry, however, which allows you to change controls using the original DOS menus.

Don't change too many controls, however, especially not the "turn right" and "turn left", or you'll be unable to navigate menus.

Remember to press U to toggle mouse view in game.

You can also use EDuke32 which has improved control handling and mouse look as well as various optional visual improvements.

thanks for this, I was being dumb and overlooked the "launch settings" option in the directory, everything worked great from then on

My prob is, I use GoG Galaxy and therefore I don't havbe any Start Menu Entry. And I cannot find a "Setup" in Gog Galaxy. Any workaround for that? Or just simply edit the *.cfg?

It still added it to the start menu for me, but then I'm on WIn8.1, and other versions may work differently. It's also called "Launch Settings" now.

At any rate, you don't need to edit the cfg because the setup utility is still there. Just run "Launch Settings" from the game folder, which you can get to easy enough using Galaxy. (More -> Manage -> Show Folder).
