I have to disagree with the topic poster, here. I bought this because of nostalgia but once I actually installed and played it...
...I had a blast. I don't care about graphics or other useless bells and whistles. I care about gameplay and Duke has it in spades. I love the level design, the weapons, the enemies, everything. Duke himself is full of personality and he's so unlike heroes in games today that TRY to be cool. Duke doesn't care if you think he's cool. Duke knows he's a badass, he's full of machismo and testosterone.
Playing Duke is like watching Commando. The hero is a one man army spouting off lines so awful that they transcend "bad" and come right back around to "awesome". It's a non-stop killfest that defies logic and is all about the ride - and it's a HELL of a ride.

Heaven Yes. Amen to that.
Count me in the same party as FatalKitsune
At first I wanted to download this game and give it a whirl to rekindle the school yard wars of Duke 3D vs Quake (I was on the Duke side, of course ;) ) but after a good hour of play, I was having a great time! It harks back to the days where the level design doesn't hand-hold you through each barrier, and where there are no non-sense objectives that eventually translate as "Kill all the bad guys", it just tells you to kill all the bad guys from the very first second!
After I passed the 2nd chapter, I decided to put on the high-resolution pack and WHOA! If my 12 year old self could see this he would be going bananas. In finishing the game I hadn't had this much fun with a FPS in a very long time. I guess modern FPS's just don't do it for me.
Now if you'll excuse me, I might see what other mods I can chuck on this thing :)
