I do some DOS gaming on the bare metal of obsolete hardware. I have a Duke 3D atomic edition CD that needs to be in the drive when the game is run. As far as I can tell, this is just a form of DRM; there is an audio track, but I don't think it ever plays during the game.

I'm wondering if the version sold by GOG.com is the same. Could someone tell if it mounts a CD image into DOSBox? If not, I might grab it at some point.
no the GOG.com version is the online download version of the game that 3DR sold it does not look for the cd-rom and has no copy protection.
Thank you for the information.

EDIT: And thank you for the gift, GOG.com. Merry Christmas to you too! :)

What about the MIDI files that are supposed to be on the CD?

They're in a directory named "goodies" alongside some photos of the developers, audio samples in .voc format, a theme and a screensaver of some sort from the looks of it, that sort of thing. I think they're just a bonus.

The game does have sound and music without them.

Is that with the the bonus content pack or the main game download?
Neither, I was talking about the CD release that I have and that I thought you asked about.
It doesn't look like GOG.com distributes these at all.
