Did you installed DX9? If you're using Vista/Win7 you may have only DirectX 10 installed.

In short, DirectX is needed in most multimedia programs on your computer. Windows XP should come with DX9 installed, but maybe yours isn't up to date.

Thank you! DX9c from that link solved the problem (7_64) the two versions for DX9c M$ download presented me with didn't (version 27 instead of 33 of that file).
