Hi!

I've run across something INCREDIBLY frustrating that I haven't encountered before. I've played the full game on Steam before at a friend's house so I know how annoying the save system is in general, but this is something different.

I played around 3 hours last night, almost got to Gran Soren. Quit the game, restarted this morning. Suddenly it goes through all the initial settings again (brightness, subtitles, etc.) then goes to the title menu - where my save is gone. All there is is "New Game", no load, no nothing.

I tested it by running through the tutorial dungeon again and quitting to main menu. This time I see the load button and everything works fine.

However if I quit the actual game and restart, it goes through the settings initiation again and all my progress is deleted. During these settings changes it creates a new save file, essentially wiping all my progress each time...So I can't play the game, save and quit and continue playing as the save is rewritten all.the.time.

Obviously I have to quit the game whenever I'm not playing it. I can't keep it running in the background for the 100 hours or so it took me to finish last time. Making a backup of a manual save does not work because as mentioned, the game overwrites it during the "settings" phase.

It's almost like the game is treating each startup as the first time I'm launching it, and deleting all my progress.

I've no idea what and how to change but I'm on the verge of asking for a refund, as this is just a new-game loop I can't get out of.

Would appreciate any advice!

+I also have this issure i lost three saves like this
Apparently renaming the file from ddda.sav to DDDA.SAV will fix this https://www.gog.com/forum/dragons_dogma_dark_arisen/game_not_saving_starting_a_new_game_each_time_i_play

Having said that I would download dinput8.dll hooks from http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma/mods/96/?

This will enable multiple saves, although you will need to tell it where to save by updating the savepath line in dinput8.ini. In my case savePath = C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\GOG.com\Galaxy\Applications\49987265717041704\Storage\Shared\Files

Nope. From DDDA.SAV to DDDA.sav.

GOG's tech guy said so here: https://www.gog.com/forum/dragons_dogma_dark_arisen/game_not_saving_starting_a_new_game_each_time_i_play/post7

I'm having the same problem and have done all the troubleshooting steps that the GOG team has sent to me, and it still doesn't work. Bummer! This game is so amazing and I lost 4 hours of my game. Every time I restart the game client I'm back at the beginning. If however I just quit to the main menu of the game and re-load my data it's fine. Not cool! help...
Do you guys use GOG Galaxy with cloud saves enabled? I do and haven't encountered this problem. Maybe try that and uninstall it after you finish the game?

I've gone through a bunch of troubleshooting steps with support, including testing the game on two different laptops, one with Galaxy, the other without. Running as admin, setting all correct read/write permissions....Simply does not work, no matter what I do.

Maybe it has something to do with the GOG game version and my OS (Win10) since clearly other players are just. However I've played through the Steam version and had no problems whatsoever, so....

I haven't tried the Save Manager mod nor renaming the save, though that it would be case sensitive seems a bit ridiculous....that the game makes the save in one format, and can't read that format?

At this point, I've asked for a refund for the game. I really, really love this game and jumped at the chance of the GOG version on sale, but I just want to *play*, not spend all this time troubleshooting :(
