I installed a fresh install today, brand new from the sale the complete edition.
Pressed play and ....black screen for upwards of 10 mins, (starts windowed and
not even expanding it makes it work)

Anyone got any lovely advice for me? because this sucks something fierce paying
money for something on an official game service and it...NOT working.

Works for me, but my system is completely different from yours (Linux/Wine, no Galaxy). One thing about this game is that if the game does not have keyboard/mouse focus, it pauses, giving you a black screen initially. Have you tried alt-tabbing to the game window? The only other unusual characteristic of this game is the lack of anything but 16:9 resolutions, but I doubt that's an issue since I think that by default it starts out in windowed mode, anyway.

Of course you can also just try starting the game directly, in case it's a Galaxy issue.
