Updated Gog and now Dragon age crashes if I try and skip cutscenes or ever use the keyboard while making a new character. Game seems to run fine other than that though... it;s just really annoying!

Anyone got any ideas that don't resault if me uninstaling gog and having to reinstall everything?
------

Been trying all sorts form similar threads to fix it but nothing works. Now I can't hit any button on the keyboard because it will crash, no matter what!

I suppose you are speaking about Gog Galaxy. I don't have experience with it. But, what happens if you try to launch the game by itself ? You can look here for an idea of how do it.
I have the same issue, if I try to skip the startup intro the game will crash, if I don't skip it but try to use my keyboard the game crashes. If I load the game without GOG it works normally without any crashing but I don't want to play it without GOG Galaxy because then it wont count my game hours.
Same issue I have.
This is not acceptable GOG
I downloaded it, wanted to play it and cant use the keyboard?
Please do something about this.

Yet to try running the game with GOG closed
Thanks guys!
It's good to know I'm not the only one having this problem. I have since played it not using GOG and it works perfectly fine... THANK GOODNESS as I had a character fighting her way through the last stretch of the game! lol But I miss being able to track my hours and It seems I have also lost the ability to take screen shots now that it's not running through GOG... NOT imptressed GOG.
Please fix it!

i have the same problems, when i play through galaxy the game will crash when i press certain keys on my keyboard namely the esc and the arrow keys, what is weird is that it doesn't happen when i play it outside of galaxy.

Updated Gog
you mean the atlas update?
yes that breaks games exe locations because the gog staff that set it up didn't test it

the fix for busted games is to auto search first... Gog staff lied and its not possible to do it manually

then once the search engine finds a game match... which has bugger all to do with what is installed on your system because its searching the gog database [select it from the options]

now you can manually add the exe

p.s, Dragonage counts as a custom game when you have any mods installed because the old network was needed to run the official patch tool

I'm not entirely sure what you are saying to do... Could you dumb it down for me lol and give me steps, because if this works, it would be AWESOME!
ok step 1 = have you got Galaxy 2 or Galaxy 1... when you say updated Galaxy?

if its only Galaxy 1 then updates don't affect the installed games and its likely to be a local driver issue that just happened to be noticed after an Galaxy update... most Windows users don't know how to disable Microsoft updates and that is the number 1 killer of old games because games like Da:O tend to pust your Gcard hard

some basic steps
Da:O is an old game and you need Dplay to run it correct on Windows 8, 8.1.1 or 10

https://windowsforum.com/threads/turn-on-direct-play-to-use-older-games-windows-8-8-1-1-and-10.205952/

if you want to run 3rd party mods with the Daupdater tool that comes with the gog version then you will also need to turn on Network 2
https://windowsforum.com/threads/why-some-older-games-wont-run-on-windows-10.213843/#post-664247

I made a post back in 2016 when Gog first got Da:O to show how the mod tool works... sorry for the low vid but its just a reference

https://windowsforum.com/threads/dragon-age-origins-comes-to-gog-com.222281/
sorry in advance if these steps are too basic

Test 1 open game options and click in the keyboard mapping area to move F1 key across to option 2

the point of this test is to see if the game is reading the keyboard correct

if the game crashes then there are only two reasions;
1. you have a non-us keyboard layout but english US set
2. the game is NOT running in Admin mode (very common with Windows 10 users)

Test 2 open game in full screen mode ... press new game and use the esc key to skip the starting vid and jump into picking a character

the point of this test is to see if the game is reading your Gcard correct... again two possible causes of crash are;
1. the game is not running in full screen mode on its main Gcard i.e, laptops with intel chip and say Gforce are using the intel by mistake
2. the game is not running in Admin mode

how to correctly set Admin mode for Da:O in Windows 10 systems
https://vimeo.com/361229294

p.s, you set full screen mode in two places... the shortcut icon [i show this in the vimeo &\ or the config panel [see image]... you can also set full screen mode from within the game itself but most people don't

to be clear, if the two tests get your game working thats great but if you then want to run the game in a smaller screen be aware that with put more strain on the gcard and may prove too hard for laptops etc

one last thing
I remember some people having issues with the gog display

if you ever find that running the game from its install icon works fine but it crashes when run from the gog 'play' button then disable the notice overrides... only hits about 5% of users but we may as well check it

ps, good luck and say hi to Ducan for me

I just found a fix for it! Disable GOG In-game overlay for the game and it wont crash anymore! This way GOG Galaxy still counts your game hours!
