When I start the app (Windows 11), it forces the config utility to launch the first time. When it tries to launch the config utility, it crashes to desktop in less than 2 seconds - no error, no message, the app just closes swiftly.

Any help?
I haven't come across the problem, but you could go to where the game is installed ...\Dragon Age Origins\bin_ship and right click on DAOriginsConfig.exe and Run as administrator.
In case it's a permissions or antivirus issue.
Or tell your antivirus program to give DAConfig.exe access to your "Documents" folder.

Or go Start > Run services.msc - scroll down to windows management instrumention and pause it.
Then try running the launcher.
Resume the service after you have run the config program.

Or you could try bypassing the config program by creating a blank text file and name it systeminformation.xml and put it in C:\Users\Username\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried all of the above with no luck. Any further thoughts on resolving this issue?

PS I am able to run the game by launching the DAOrigins.exe, but I would like my progress tracked in the GOG app.

The OP's problem was with DAConfig.exe crashing.
If you were able to run the game from DAOrigins.exe, then you must have already run DAConfig without it crashing.
Or does the galaxy client not acknowledge that it has been run, and try to run DAConfig.exe again, and causes it to crash?
Or is it simply causing the actual game to crash?
Regardless, your problem seems to be with galaxy, and I can't help with that, as I don't use it.
Hopefully someone else here might be able to shed some light on it.

I had this issue and was able to copy the files over from my steam deck to the broken machine. You can add a file named `systeminformation.xml` to your `Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/` directory. I checked to make sure this was enough to bypass the system config check, but I don't know if any of the other settings files will be required.

edit: Well I don't nearly feel as clever seeing that olnorton actually posted this months ago. How the heck did I miss that in 2 days of troubleshooting?! Dang!

I found THE fix.

Download the Windows ADK. Cant post link but google adk-install
During installation, it gives the option to select multiple tools; the only one needed is Compatibility Administrator.
Once installed, open the Start Menu folder named Windows Kits, and launch Compatiblity Administrator (32-bit).
Select the new database under custom databases.
Click the database menu > Create New > Application Fix.
Provide the full path of DAOriginsConfig.exe and give it a name of choosing.
Skip past the compatibility mode options.
In compatibility fixes select ProcessorCountLieForHybridCPU.
Save the database from the Database menu and give it a name when prompted.
Select File > Install.

I tried that one. Launcher is still broken but now I can at least start the game directly from .exe file and set everything in-game.

Thanks for tip.
