Here is where I am: going through all DA games before new one drops. I have installed DA:O Ultimate Edition through GOG in hopes to replay for the first time since initial release, with a bunch of mods of course. Currently, the game initiates but crashes as soon as the game window opens. I have installed the LAA 4GB patch, tried to launch from the DragonAge.exe file directly, but cannot seem to find a fix. I have tried to play through Steam as well, but running into the same issue. The launcher menu works perfectly fine on both.

I am thinking that the problem lies with compatibility issues. Does this sound like it could be the issue? If so, does anyone have a guide on how to remedy?

My Setup:
Windows 11
Gigabyte Nvidia RTX 4090 Aero
AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3d (8 Cores)
LG C2 42"

Im experiencing the same issue. The only way I can launch the game is by disabling the sound in the config. But playing without sound isn't really an option. I've been troubleshooting for days and have tried everything I can think off. Has anyone found a solution?

Im playing on windows 10, RTX 4070 Super, Ryzen 5

I'm experiencing the same issue. I don't know if GOG will be addressing this, since it's not happening with everyone. I've only seen a handful of people with this issue, so it is likely they won't do anything. =(
I found a fix for mine. No idea why this works, but it did.

From a comment on the Steam forums guid for the LAA patch.

"go to the Documents -> BioWare -> Dragon Age folder, create an empty text file, and rename it to systeminformation.xml (make sure file extensions are visible in Windows Explorer)."

This works, but the game will still crash when you try to access the config menu in the launcher.
OK, after jumping through all the hoops, running all the patches, ensuring everything was up to date and all of the legacy software was installed NOTHING worked. either when running from GoG or the launcher.

Then I ran directly from F:\GoG\GoG_Games\Dragon Age Origins\bin_ship\DAOrigins.exe (standard, admin privileges not required in my case). It worked. So the problem is entirely with DAOriginsConfig.exe, at least in my case. Note, once running, I could select options from the in-game menu ans set graphics, sound etc. without problems.
