Anarchist_Peasant: I can get Inquisition for 15$ or Origins off this sale right now. The 8$ difference means nothing to me. I don't want to commit to playing the entirety of this big trilogy (too many other games). But the next games on my list are Neverwinter Nights 2 and KOTOR 1. The DA games seem right along the same lines. Do y'all think it would be better to just play the newer and more gorgeous looking DA? I highly value character customization and story myself. The ign review said Inquisition had a "frustratingly bland" story although he still really enjoyed it a lot. And I heard the 2nd sux so it kind of comes down to Inquisition or Origins I guess. If anyone here has completed the trilogy which game would you recommend if a player could only finish one?
Dragon Age Inquisition is nothing like NWN2, it is more like a politic simulation with action combat. There is a story wrapped around it, but you will soon lose track. More important is to do TASKS and more TASKS to complete an area and build up your keep to gain more levels and get better at doing TASKS. The next important thing are your companions and their TASKS*.
NWN2 and Dragon Age Origins is more about talking to NPC, gather information, tricky Speech-Checks** if you prefer to play a more social character or you go just brute force like an action RPG. Choices have consequences here.
This does not mean, it is a bad game. It looks gorgious, the music is brilliant, the voice over great. Like many others, I love the character of Sera, "cool, in'it?"***. The combat system needs to get used to, but is interesting to say the least. Yet alone that the default zoom in dialogues is so far away, it is like playing an isometric game, you see the main feature of the game is not story, though.
*TASKS means, kill 10 this, kill all around this area, get this from there, bring this to there. Without much meaning to the rest of the story.
** I don't remember any speech-check in Inquisition with consequences. Except for your companions dialogue, do you want to have s** -> No!. Some levels later, after doing more of the companions tasks, do you want to have s** -> Sure!
*** she is like I hoped the teenage daughter of Harkon in Skyrim to be, but instead we got some childish brat. I never understood what people older than maybe 12 liked about her. Where Sera is not childish at all, she sometimes makes you laugh at times and always keeps you thinking...
p.s. Dragon Age Inquisition is much more casual than Dragon Age Origins or Neverwinter Nights. I usually research games before I start playing, make plans for my character etc. in DA:I it does not really matter. If you are really dedicated to the overall Dragon Age Saga (I-III) and/or also read the books, then you will enjoy the frequent links between the games and how unique occurrences from previous titles are mentioned in the way you played it (Only if you use the Origin version and have it linked online to the keep of course, which you have to do anyway in DA:I).
