ussnorway: You sound much more confident now days… onwards to glory!
Knowing more of the map and which areas are within my characters' levels help a lot. I've been using the headings on the IGN wiki to help plan my route, but not reading the actual walk through. So figuring out the quests is pretty much all me (with help from you guys - the patrons of the King Crab, heh).

I didn't play last night, but I'll be doing some more adventuring this weekend. There are a couple of quests I've probably borked, through. One being the Elf-Orc Blood Feud. I failed the RPS mini-game and wasn't able to get Victoria's amulet. I refuse to kill her, so the only other option I have is to try and get the quest giver arrested (or cold-blooded murder of said quest giver, heh). Arrest doesn't seem to be working, so I'm a little stuck there.

The other one I failed the RPS at is trying to get the crowd warmer to go work for the other entertainer. Not certain what to do there either. I just get the feeling the crowd needs to be at the other stage for some reason.

Oh well, Black Cove tonight and more this weekend. One thing I'm trying to figure out is how to disable the storm field in the cave there. I think there might be a switch. but I haven't had a chance yet to explore further.

Storm field?
There is a water trap at the beginning of the cave with an electric outlet (i.e. trap) under the water… you can;
1. Jump over it or,
2. Grab a crate | barrel and toss it onto the outlet (good str needed here)… thereby blocking the electric current from entering the water.
This is from memory so if I'm thinking of the wrong trap… sorry.

As for the chatty head you need, in best to worst order;
1. A character with good talk skills to convince him to return to his family,
2. Or send away the crowd so that nobody witnesses you stealing the head… he can impede you by yelling out for help,
3. Or Just kill the lot and pry the head from their cold dead fingers.

p.s. ime a good thief can usually pickpocket quest items from uncompliant quest givers.

There is a static cloud trap near the start of the Black Cove, but your advice is still applicable (there are a couple barrels around).
My group is a bit ahead...
Finding my way to the end of a maze has earned me level 16…

Now I have a decision to make.

I chose the archery book for my Scarlett, who was an archer. It's a very good skill. It shoots a lot of arrows in a cone in front of you, like a machine gun :D 1-1 arrow is weak by itself, but if the enemy is standing right in front of you, all arrows will hit it, dealing massive damage :D

Can't comment on the other 2 skills, didn't try them.

Wrong cavern, as I haven't run into that trap yet. I did get past the storm cloud in Black Cove though. =)

As for the elf-orc blood feud, I was able to resolve that. I'll post my solution in my update shortly.

After a night's rest at the King Crab, we decided to stick around town for a bit. We found our way into the cellars of the fine tavern and poked about. After raiding the larder (Madora, it turns out has quite the appetite, though nothing compared to Jahan's), we found a key lying on one of the crates. We found the corresponding chest in the middle of a poison field. Alyssa dissipated the field with a Flare, whilst Madora moved a box onto the trigger to prevent the poison cloud from coming back.

Another key was also in this room, so Madora grabbed it and returned to the rest of us waiting outside. As she left the room, she apparently triggered something which caused fire to rain down repeated in the room. No matter, Madora had cleared the room before the first fireball hit the ground. We found the other locked chest in the far end of the same room, and another unlocked chest near the stairs.

We then decided we'd had enough of the impasse with Eglandaer. We already knew there was no way we were going to kill Victoria, and we couldn't get the amulet from her, nor could we get Eglandaer arrested. We went to Eglandaer's room in the King Crab and shut the door with the intention of doing some intensive private negotiations. No sooner had we shut the door the crazy Elf sprang upon us with murderous rage. We fought him off and ended up killing the poor man. Not what we had intended, but so be it.

Both Cecil and Victoria were shocked that we'd killed him, but both agreed there was little choice after explaining we'd done it in self-defense. There was blood on our hands, but our consciences were clean. Subdued, we returned to the King Crab to plan out how we were going to get past the storm cloud in the Black Cove.

In the morning, we teleported to the cavern entrance. There was the storm could, just past the bridge. We send Madora in the lead and she probed the outside edge of the storm. Alyssa used a fireball to disperse the filed temporarily and we saw a switch and a couple of barrels. Using her Telekinesis, Madora moved one of the barrels onto the switch and disabled the field. Unfortunately, we pushed forward a little too quickly and were briefly stunned by the remnants of the field.

Once able to move again, we came across a mortally wounded Orc soldier. Before he died, he mentioned something about claws and a pirate. Hurrying on, we came to a fork in the path. We elected to take the higher route. Further up, we came across a group of Orcs and Skeletons fighting. They seemed unaware of us, so we watched the battle. The Orcs didn't last too long before falling to the skeletons, which then turned their attention to us. What followed was an intense battle that echoed off the cavern walls with its ferocity.

Victorious, we returned to Cyseal for rest and restocking. We're looking forward to exploring the rest of the cavern and to exploring more areas around Cyseal.

I should have another update on the adventures of Flynn, Alyssa, Madora and Jahan tomorrow. In the meantime, I've started a new game with a Knight and a Wayfairer to try a few things out. The Knight (Katrina) has Bully and Lone Wolf, while the Wayfairer (Katria) has Far Out Man and Lone Wolf. So, no Madora or Jahan joining this time around. In less than an hour's play time, they waltzed through the tutorial cavern and sent Ishmashell back into the ocean. I made sure both had a point in Geomancer for Summon Spider.

Katria, I plan to make a full-on wizard, mostly boosting her Intelligence at level up (though a few points in Dexterity here and there early on for bows/crossbows). Magic wise, I will likely concentrate on Pyromancy and Witchcraft, but she will get a minimum of one point in each school.

Katrina is the tank, and will get most of her points in Strength for armour and damage. She will also get points in Blacksmith and Charisma as she is the party leader. The interesting point I think will be trying to cover all the bases for a balanced party with only the two of them and a couple of spiders per combat. Should be fun.

They will take a LOT of trap damage.

How so? By upping their Perception, I find a number of traps. The Wayfarer has a staff as well as a bow, so we can destroy mines from a distance. There are still some traps they trigger, but we don't seem to take too much damage so far. =)

Well, I think it's time to bring this thread to a close. Why? The Sims 4 happened and I foresee it taking a good chunk of my life for the next few weeks. Thanks to everyone who participated and gave me great hints. I'll continue playing this, obviously, as it's a fantastic game. And, of course, I'll still post on the GOG community for this game and the other games I've picked up from here (176 titles so far - probably never get through all of them) but I will finish this one. =)
