I was unaware that the digital version did not come fully patched and now my sight range reveals way too much. Is there a way to fix this or manually reduce the sight range value? Is it possible to convert a savegame from this digital version to the patched CD/DVD version?

Everything is visible on the map (radius is about 4-5 1680x1050 screens) and it kind of ruins exploration, and I invested around 25 hours into this game. Restarting would kind of suck :/

EDIT: Also I just learned that there is supposedly a lot more music in the game that doesn't play. Are there any disadvantages of the CD/DVD version compared to the GOG version? I'm thinking I'll be switching to that since the GOG version is bugged and doesn't play music properly.

This question / problem has been solved by Raze_Larianimage
You can edit the sight range manually. See the Larian forum topic Some more hex offsets... (and maybe Teleporting Anywhere, via hex editor as a reference). IIRC a sight range of 18 should clear the majority of the screen playing at 1024x768, for example, while the starting value is 12.

DAD's item editor can add/remove sight bonuses and sight skill bonuses from equipment. The older Divine Divinity Item Editor is more compatible with VIsta/7 (DAD's requires Visual Basic runtime files that may not be included or get installed), but can not edit skill bonuses.

You can replace the shroud.* file(s) in the save game folder from an earlier save (or a different game) to reset the fog of war.
Different file extensions are associated with different areas of the game;
.0 / .x0 = Ferol (Aleroth, Rivertown, Ars Magicana, etc)
.1 / .x1 = Verdistis, Council Hall
.2 / .x2 = Dark Forest
.3 / .x3 = Black Ring dungeons
.4 / .x4 = Wastelands

The disk version of the game is officially limited to 1024x768 resolution, and does not support widescreen aspect ratios. You can edit the config.div file to set the resolution manually, though. The game itself should be ok in other than supported resolutions, but opening the main map can cause the game to crash (the probability of which is system and resolution dependent).

One person reported getting crashes in Verdistis with a save started in the download version and continued in the disk version. I don't know if that would be a problem for you, but at least in that case a new game started in the disk version was fine when they got to Verdistis.

The sight range editing worked! Thanks a bundle. Also I used the shroud from an earlier save and now I'm in the middle of a sea of blackness, but hey it works!

By the way, my sight range value was 192. Compared to the default 12, that's quite a bit more eh?

Again, thanks a lot.

Would you happen to know of any good fixes for the music?
In the thread "Music don't change if I go elswhere!" on the larian website (I can't post links for some reason) user "benighted" says that simply replacing the exe and 2 dll files restores the music. Would this cause problems with saves? I have done as outlined and replaced the exe and files and the music does indeed now work. There is about a 30 second delay from the moment I enter an area to when the music starts. Was it like this in the original game as well?

In any case, thanks for the sight range fix. It seems merely equipping the item gives a permanent boost.

I don't know of any fixes for the music, other than the one report you found (here). Nobody has given any feedback on that fix, so I don't know if there are any problems with existing saves, or other issues.

In the disk version of the game there can be delays in the music transition between different areas, or before the music loops in the same area.

I think you have to get your rep up to 10, or something, before you can post links. There was a rash of forum spam awhile ago, and that was the quick fix (don't know if a more selective filter is planned).
